Soreness post hysterectomy

Hi there, I had a total hysterectomy due to severe endometriosis 4 weeks ago, the operation was apparently quite difficult and 5 hours long, I also lost a lot of blood (sorry to be graphic) My surgeon managed however to do it keyhole which was great, as I was expecting open surgery. I’m doing ok and am shuffling around more and more each day (still not been out yet though!) and the pain is easing, however, my stitches are still very sore and so is my tum inside … the aftercare isn’t great unfortunately and I have no idea if this is all normal and if I’m repairing as expected… is there anyone who has been through the same thing who could give me some advice please ? I was also given Codine to take as a pain relief… is it normal to still be needing 2-3 a day as well as paracetamol, 4 weeks in? I’m just hoping someone can tell me a bit about their journey so I can feel less alone in all this. Any advice would be really appreciated. Take care everyone ❤️

Hi, I had a full hysterectomy via laparoscopy, including ovaries removed, 7 months ago now. (7 months prior to that I had another lap to remove cyst, tubes ). The recovery after the hysterectomy took longer and I had more pain afterwards due to the complexity of the surgery and how much endo they found, probably the cyst ruptured. But I was definitely feeling better 1 week out and was easing off of the painkillers by that time. For sure by 2 weeks post surgery, I was off pain killers and able to get around better, going on short drives, walks and light stretch exercises. If you are 4 weeks out and still in so much pain, you might want to go in and have a dr take a look to make sure there aren't any infections or complications that are causing your pain. Take care and hope you are feeling better!

Hallo, it took me 3 weeks to get on my feet after my lap (burst cyst removal), and even then I was still hobbling around/in pain for a further 3 weeks. They gave me codeine to take with paracetamol for 2 weeks, then I carried on with paracetamol/ibrupofen for a couple more weeks. It takes a long time to heal from such a major op as yours. What is worth investigating is the sore stitches as this may be a sign of infection.

I returned to work, a staggered start 3 mornings 4 weeks after my hysterectomy. It does take about a year to feel back to full health, don't be hard on yourself, everyone's journey is different. Perhaps for your peace of mind get a Dr to check you over in case of any infection etc. Each day try and do a little walk and rest afterwards, baby steps, be kind to yourself xxx
