Combined pill and endo

Hi,

I’m about to go in for my lap and ovarian cyst removal in a few days. I’ve declined a Merina coil as single hormone contraception plays havoc with my long term acne and my pain form endo is manageable.

The combined pill has worked really well for my skin in the past and I’m wondering about this as an option to help with my endo too- the main problem of which is heavy bleeding. When I’ve had it in the past it’s lightened the bleeding and regulated my periods.

Does anyone use the combined pill to manage their endo symptoms?

I’m going to talk to my consultant about it at my follow up. He’s really pushing the merina so I’m not sure how he’ll react to this.

Thanks.

Hi Big, I was on the combined pill from being young for my acne and didn't.have any symptoms of endo until they took me off it due to clot risks. I've suffered symptoms of endo and adenomyosis since and ultimately accepted the Mirena which didn't manage the symptoms and my acne returned, I was then put on the mini pill but this didn't help either. I then specifically requested the combined pill and was put on rigevidon but I think my endo has advanced to a point where this doesn't help either but my acne is under control. Remember this is your health and you're at liberty to ask for what you want, you have to be prepared to plead your case though. For me my acne affected me more than my endo at the time as it brought my self esteem level right down and this was the angle I took with my doctor. I hope you have some success.

Thanks- you’re absolutely right. I’m at that stage too- acne affects me more than the endo. I shall keep your advice at the front of my mind! X

In terms of it helping your Endo I would definitely not recommend it! After I was diagnosed I was put on it and it made my Endo worse, even now after switching to the depo jab I’m still dealing with the damage from it.. endo’s an estrogen dominant disease and the combined pill contains loads of the hormone.. like I say I’m now on the depo jab and it seems to be ok x

Do you think the mini pill is ok? I’ve been prescribed it and I’m terrified to take it xx

Thank you. Is it one of those things that’s different for everyone? I do not- thankfully- have chronic pain from endo- my biggest issue is heavy periods that make me constantly anaemic. I’ll chat to my consultant but he’s very heavily pushing the merina which doesn’t suit me.

I think that’s basically the depo jab but I’m the form of a pill so I would say yes x
