Endo flare up after cyst rupture or something else?

Hi, I'm very new here and English is not my mother tongue so apologies for any misspelling issues.

Three weeks ago I had a severe pain in my lower abdomen and I ended up calling an ambulance that took my to the ER. There I was diagnosed with a ruptured corpus luteum cyst and I was back home the same night. However, the pain started again the next evening and then it felt like I had lots of blood somewhere in the abdomen. I got some painkillers and the pain eased a little. After that there has been constant pain in the uterus/rectum area, defecating is especially painful. Couple of times I had also severe episodes of diarrhea. Few days after the hospital visit I got my period, although very scarce. and I felt that I was bleeding more to the inside.

What makes this interesting is that I haven't been diagnosed with endo but I do have fibromyalgia and (supposedly) IBS. Now that I look at the endo symptoms, I have had nearly all of them except severe pain during period, with me ovulation has always been more painful. What do you say, could this be acute endo flare up or is this something else? Ultrasound last week didn't reveal any endo tissue but it did show some hemorrhage around right ovary although my pain and the ruptured cyst is/was on the left side.

I'm 42 yrs, no pregnancies and I have never been on the pill or used any other hormonal contraceptive.

Hi KeljuK

Welcome to the community 😊

Your experience with a ruptured cyst sounds extremely painful 😔 it can trigger all sorts of symptoms and pain around the pelvic area. Endo is often mistaken for IBS. It does sound like it would be worth investigating getting an official diagnosis of endometriosis with your GP.

I would really recommend reading Endometriosis UK's pack on Getting Diagnosed, which gives advice on how to prepare for an appointment with your GP: endometriosis-uk.org/sites/...

If you'd like to speak to someone for support, you can call Endometriosis UK's helpline. The rota is here: endometriosis-uk.org/helpline

Hope that in the meantime you can find relief from the pain you're dealing with. Wishing you the best!

Hello I have had a similar experience recently. I am waiting to see gynae with suspected endo. My period this month made me feel very unwell lots of craps shaking etc… then one night extreme pain in groin I couldn’t move for hours but it didn’t subside. Doctor thought maybe a ruptured cyst. I had a scan yesterday and they found no cyst. Today I feel awful again pain in groin pain in bum like you and upset tummy. Ovulation for me is also worse I’m am due to ovulate so not sure if that’s why it’s worse? I will speak to my doctor next week to see if the scan showed anything else but I don’t hold out much hope. A couple of years after a scan my doctor said she could see I had a cyst from the structure of my ovary but it was no longer there so I’m wondering if it might be same thing.
