Does anyone have experience of a ruptured ovarian cyst and recovery time?
2.5 weeks ago, 111 advised I visit A&E as they suspected I had appendicitis. A&E junior doctor said I was constipated 🤬 but it was soon discovered I had a ruptured ovarian cyst and I had a pelvis full of blood.
Decided not to operate and I’m waiting for a follow up scan appointment.
The doctor said it could be up to 4 weeks before I feel 100% normal but I’m nowhere near feeling 100%. I still have awful cramps low in my pelvis (like endometriosis pain) and I get severe sharp pains at the side of the rupture.
Anyone else have any experience of recovery? Work are understanding and GP happy to sign me off but I just want to feel some improvement, you know?
Thank you x

Yes, I’ve had this experience! And it really, REALLY takes time to heal from it. Your body has just had a trauma. I attach the best description of this I’ve seen, which helps put it in perspective. Don’t feel you need to rush the healing process.
For me doc said the free pelvic fluid takes at least 6 weeks to subside. For me I needed at least a week for the main symptoms to calm down. All I remember is the next period after the cyst ruptured was especially painful
Yes I am dreading my period I have to say! I’m not in as much pain as I was but simple things like taking a shower and having to bend to pick up shampoo etc is painful. Thank you for your reply x
