Depo Injection

Has anyone who has tried the depo injection noticed any difference compared to with the progesterone only pill? Are the side effects similar or have both been different? I have recently tried the norgeston pill which cause more pain as it made me bleed constantly and I am worried I might have the same with the injection. I am running out of options now as I have tried many different pills and the mirena coil. I had an unsuccessful endo expert excision surgery last year and I just really need something to help manage my symptoms.

Hi, thank you for your response. I have been able to see the responses but I think your post is about the induced menopause injections. I am wanting to know more about the progesterone contraceptive injection x

Oh I didn’t know there was one?? I’ll have to look into that see if it’s an option for me?? I’m on provera atm which worked before but have been struggling this time so I really need to look into my options xx

Yeah there is, but I just don’t know if it is going to be the same as the progesterone only pill but just in the form of an injection in terms of symptoms. I didn’t do well on my last progesterone pill and just don’t want the same thing x

Hi Luci20, I was on this for a while and it did help for a bit but I had to come off it cos I was getting really bad headaches, but I've tired most things now! I'm now on decapeptyl injections every month (been on it for over a year now) and I'm starting to get headaches with this too, but they are easier to deal with then the horrendous endo pain and bleeding 😉 good luck with whatever u decide to do xx

I get a lot of headaches too when taking any form of contraceptive. It’s so difficult when there aren’t really many options to manage endo. Thanks you, hope you have some better luck too! X

Hi Luci20, the depot injection is a life saver for me. It manages my symptoms well most of the time. I actually only discovered that I had endo when I had a break from the depot (there was some kind of supply issue) so I tried the progesterone only pill (for contraception) and I had horrendous bleeding and pain which led to investigation for endo. I previously tried the implant which also didn’t work for me. I haven’t had any other treatments for endo. I do suffer a lot with bloating but mostly my symptoms are quite well managed. Good luck if you try the depot injection x

Thank you that’s reassuring to know that the injection worked better then the pill form for you so it could be worth trying. At the moment it is between the injection and implant for me or trying another pill again x

Morning. I am on provera and have been for years now. You can get it as an injection (depo) or in pill format. It’s the same drug either way. It is progesterone only. I have quite bad endo and unfortunately the injection did not last the full 3 months so am on the pill option taking 3 pills a day. Inconvenient but effective as I have no periods and no pain. The only side effect was weight gain but that might be the cake you never really know!! I would recommend the drug.

Thank you, that’s helpful. I didn’t realise there was a pill the exact same as the injection form. I have tried to find out more about the pill form and there doesn’t seem to be much about it on the internet x

I did try norgesterone and it did not suit me. Provera is a much better drug. Your doctor can give you the injection every 3 months or you can get a prescription for the pills. The injection is worth trying as more convenient. It just did not last a whole 3 months for me so I take the pills and am symptom free.
