Fibroid with Tranexamic acid and Norethisterone and still bleeding

Hi I am new on here.

After having the period from hell and really heavy blood loss I went to A and E and eventually diagnosed with a 5cm fibroid and have been put on 1g of Tranexamic acid 3 times a day and Norethisterone 3 times a day for 4 days then got to just have Norethisterone 3 times a day for 21 days and then have a period and use the Tranexamic acid if period is heavy and only for 4 days and start the Noresthisterone again for 21 days.

The problem is I am still bleeding on tablets with clots. Should this be happening? I am dreading just going on the Norethisterone only and can see myself going back to hospital.

I am perimenopausal age but could handle the periods up to now but now I am flooding and unable to leave the house. I cant take this for years.

Any suggetions.

Hello.... l had the same problem.... bleeding very heavily everyday and ended up very anemic. The bleeding got so bad l also had to go to A and E. I got diagnosed with a prolapsed fibroid. I had surgery about 4 months ago and the problem was corrected I feel brand new... Before the surgery the bleeding was a living hell for me.... l had no control of it and couldn't go to work or go out without worrying over it. Before the surgery l was put on all the tablets you are taking on right now but that didn't help l continued to bleed heavily. I was then put on prostap injections once every month for 3 months but I still continued to bleed heavily. Surgery helped to stop the heavy bleeding and I am now having my normal period without the blood colts and no period pain. I hope this helps... xxx

Hello... My treatment was done on the NHS at St James Hospital in Leeds.. The Gynaecology department were fantastic I didn't have to wait long for Surgery. My GP had put everything through as agent because I was now very anemic with all the blood loss. If it is possible for you go private it is quicker to be seen.... Good Luck xx

Hi,

When I started Tranexamic Acid I never came off it. I take it daily, twice a day (long term) It took 2-3 months for my periods to regulate, but any attempt to come off it and they've started to slip back into their prior state. Before it took effect, I was at the stage of sitting on bath towels at home because K bled through a tampon and night time pads so quickly and had tonnes of clots, botg bjg and small. I was also not having a regular cycle as days after stopping I'd start bleeding again, every time. I've tried progesterone three times and most recently, the third time, I am on my third month and I 'm now spotting more days than not - basically my periods had been on a regular cycle without unacceptable bleeding, or breakthrough bleeding, for more than a year, maybe even more than that. The longer I've been on the progesterone the more frequently I'm spotting, to the point now it is more days than not

I'm.wondering if it might not be worth speaking to your GP about trying tranexamic acid on its own for a few months to see if it helps over time. Intake it every day, withoit a break. I was convinced it wasn't going to work for me when suddenly everything changed. In the meantime you can also ask your GP to check your iron and b vitamin levels to make sure your not anemic ect.

I hope you find the solution that works for you as quickly and easily as possible.

Good luck!

Thank you for replying.I have stopped bleeding now but seem to have a lot of pressure on my lower stomach. I am trying to find a private hospital for a gynaecological consultant but keep seeing bad reviews. Apparently I wasn't anaemic but I have got iron tablets ready to take.

Is it pressure or a pressure like pain, and is it new? If it is a new pain that is causing you concern do not hesitate to call your GP or the health advice line for advice, without delay.

Fibroids can cause pressure which can be connected to their positioning. Heat may help - do you have a microwave heat bag or hot water bottle? Alternatively a warm bath may help ease your discomfort if this is an option for you. I use my heat bags regularly for pain and just make sure I keep the fan on and close by in the warmer weather. Gentle exercise/stretching may also offer some relief IF you are up to it. If you Google exercise for fibroids you should find some suggestions. Make sure you look for comparisons between advice to make sure it is a shared opinion and that you never do anything that causes you more pain or discomfort.

If it is a pressure like pain it is important to keep a record of its frequency and how bad it is on a scale of 1-10 so you have this for any future appointments. (Check online for a guide when assessing pain on a 1-10 scale). Include any other relevant information such as ways you've attempted to relieve the pain (including successes and failures), if it prevents you from doing things like working, day to day activities or sleeping (including if it wakes you when you do sleep). Inclide symptoms such as if the pain causes you to experience any stomach upset such as nausea or actual vomiting.

Have you started your iron tablets? They can cause issues for some such as bloating, gas, and constipation. It is worth making sure your diet includes food and plenty of water to encourage regular bowel movements. I suggest monitoring your bowel movements (frequency and any difficulties such as pain, needing to strain, and any changes in the appearance of your stool). If you do have side effects from your iron tablets they are often minor and ease as your body adjusts. Regardless, it never hurts to be proactive with looking after yourself and identifying any issues earlker can minimise the length of time you are affected. If you find you do have strong side effects, or they don't ease, contact your GP or pharmacist and they may suggest a different form, possibly even a liquid normally prescribed for young children, to see if is less problematic for you.

Are you looking for a private consultant because of difficulting getting in to see an NHS one? Keep in mind that if you are seeing bad reviews to read the full info as they can be about medical competence/practices or a one off bad personality clash. Have you tried searching for recommended private consultants for fibroids? It is important to take into consideration what your concern is and the person's competence - specifically with your concern. It also never hurts to call an office and make enquiries such as if the consultant has special interests (specialisations), their treatment experience or any other question you may want answering before committing to a privately paid for assessment.

Keep in mind that if you do see someone via the NHS and you have seen a gynaecologist who has failed you, you are entitled to amsecond opinion. Your GP should accept your request without issue. Don't be afraid to request a referral to a specific nearby hospital/trust, provided you are able to get there and back. In case you are unaware, consultants often work as a part of a team so you could be assigned to a consultant and be seen by any one of their team members on the day of your NHS appointment(s).

I hope something here may be of help. It is daunting trying to understand what is going on with our bodies and then trying to find the best help to make sure we are getting the care we deserve, all while not feeling up to the task in the first place.

Most importantly be kind to yourself. Stress can be easy to internalise, especially if you don't have adequate support at home (regardless the reason), and/or are forced to make compromises in your life due to your symptoms, and/or are being failed by the medical system. None of it is your fault.

Hi I take TXA too, I still have heavy loss and big clots, particularly first 3 days. Waiting to see what get diagnosed with, thinking it will be endometriosis

You need to be referred to a gynaecologist for a review. I’ve had multiple fibroids and last night underwent a subtotal hysterectomy after putting up with it for years.. ironically the gynae registrar at Jimmys in Leeds said to wait until I hit menopause as they will likely shrink (which they do), but didn’t quite take into consideration my quality of life issue. It has been debilitating. There are treatments you can choose at this stage, like myomectomy or embolisation. But need to see gynaecologist for advice. I’ve since moved to Scotland so am under a different consultant gynaecologist.
