Hormonal treatment

Hi I hope you’re well! Has anyone been prescribed cerazette as part of their treatment? I’ve been on it since November last year and have been suffering really badly with headaches and migraines on a daily basis. I’m still in a lot of pain and have been bleeding throughout this time (give or take a few days break). It’s really starting to get me down now, I’m worried as my consultant has said that cerazette is really my last option (I’ve tried the coil and zoladex injection but both didn’t work for me). I’d be grateful for any help/advice x x

Hi Emk,There's a page on the Endometriosis UK website with a list of hormonal treatment options to consider (description on page, details in the pdf):

I have endometriosis too. I'm using the Mirena coil plus Cerezette. It's only my first month on these, but they've reduced the pain, so that's a step in the right direction. I still have spotting, but hope that will reduce over time. I read it takes about 3 to 4 months for the body to become accustomed to the new level of hormones.

I think there are a few other mini-pills (like Cerezette) that you could consider, if you wanted to (listed on the pdf from the Endometriosis UK link). One I'm interested in is ingredient dienogest, under the name Zalkya. It's specifically for endometriosis. I haven't tried it, but would like to ask my GP about it. It just became available in the UK Feb 2020.

Also worth noting, when aiming for period suppression, some GPs suggest doubling the dose of the mini-pill (e.g. 2 a day) if there is still menstruation with one pill a day. This is described on the Endometriosis UK website under advice during COVID 19.

Hi June_Viola, thank you that's really helpful. I'm going to speak to my consultant about Zalkya. I've been on Cerazette for nearly 6 months and I'm still bleeding daily.

I hope the mirena and Cerazette works for you, good luck!x x
