Hello guys, hope everyone is okay. I've been suffering with endometriosis symptoms for the past 13 years, and finally I'm having it looked into. I've been told that they wanna switch me from the pill to the mirena coil as this will help symptoms, they don't want to do surgery as I don't have children yet and want to in the next couple of years, and they are worried if they do the surgery they may find more and may have to give me a hysterectomy which they don't want as I'm only 28, it's all very overwhelming and would love to hear some stories and feedback.

HiYou’re going through a really tough time.

Have you had an MRI? It won’t necessarily show endo unless it’s deep, but you can at least rule out other things. If you do ask for this include abdomen as well as pelvic area.

I can’t comment on the coil, there’s plenty of women here who have, a search will likely bring up loads of posts for experiences.

Was it an endo specialist you saw? To me it’s a bit rough saying you may need a hysterectomy straight off. They can’t judge that as small amounts of endo can cause pain. Maybe a second opinion elsewhere.

I’m doing that after having a hysterectomy, that was an endo specialist.

Hello, it was a gynecologist I saw, and I've had a second opinion. They don't want to give me a laparoscopy until after I have kids in case they find more in there. They also don't want to give me an MRI either as I'm young and these are last resorts. So they think for now the coil is the best option until after I've had kids. It makes sense but I kinda just want it out of me tbh, just hope the coil works. Thanks for your advice btw.

Hi, Mam 1993 I had to have a hysterectomy at 25 and feel for you!! I tried the more a coil but it didn’t work for me and bled all time anyway, little lighter but not massive improvement x have u had a laparoscopy? MRI may rule out other stuff but the laparoscopic investigation can confirm or rule out endo. Also, ask about freezing your eggs! I was never offered that option and it’s always an option for u in future x if you want kids first have u started trying? I found my second pregnancy difficult and then the hysterectomy was my only option as it was a mess inside but with adheesions not endometriosis and mine spreads to other organs. They thought endometriosis did laparoscopy saw what it was and then let me decide if I was going to continue for a while which I did but ended up emergency hysterectomy when it all twisted as I wa hoping to try for one more baby but it never happened. Ask what your options are first, get them to confirm endometriosis before u think of hysterectomy x I’m glad I had mine out in the end the relief of pain was and still is a blessing. But it’s hard emotionally to accept and that’s hard if u not had baby yet. My advice is ask ask ask! Get them to take a look and go from there x ask what ifs xx

They don't want to do a laparoscopy until after Ive had kids and have told me that the mirena coil manipulates my hormones so all my symptoms (there is a lot) are controlled, they keep saying they don't want to put a healthy 28 year old in surgery until they have to, I get it but also nervous about the coil as I've tried other birth controls and they made things worse. Im going to give the coil a go and if not I will look into freezing my eggs as this is something I've wanted to do for a while now. It's just really overwhelming, as I feel like it's just going to get worse if that makes sense. But I suppose I'll just give this a try and see what happens.

Give it a go, don’t be nervous hun, it can and does help a lot of women. It did improve things for me but my condition means it attacks anything that not supposed to be there. Are they worried laparoscopic investigations will cause more scar tissue? Have they offered hormone patches? Normally for peri menopause/ menopause but. An also help in multi problems with your symptoms? X I’d say give it a go, be prepared u may need a period of time to adjust to it before benefiting from it XX everybody is different.

Yeah they mentioned scar tissue and maybe finding more when going in, so they just want to try and control it with hormones for now. They also did mention hormone patches but I don't want to go down that route as I don't want to have menopause symptoms at 28, but I'm willing to try anything to be honest. Just want the pain to go away. I just hope it works as it's been a long 12 years. Thanks for your advice btw, means alot.

Hello, I was the same as you I had suffered for years and I finally had a laparoscopy in 2017, they found endo and lasered it away, I swear this helped me become more fertile and I fell pregnant with my little girl in 2018, I swear it helped me become a Mammy. I had her then when she was 14 month I fell pregnant with my little boy! I have two beautiful children now and I am worse than ever since having them, I duno what to do, I’ve just had the mirena coil fitted, and I suffered with it so I’ve had I removed, and I am going for a scan tomorrow to check for cysts before starting again and wondering what the hell is gonna help! I think you should have the laparoscopy first before trying if you haven’t already xxx

I'm so happy to hear this, because it has been a major worry of mine. So happy that you were able to have your babies. That gives me hope. They want to try the coil first before having the laparoscopy as they don't want to get in there and find more wrong as I'm young and healthy ish at the moment, so I'm obviously going to give it a try but if it doesn't work I'm going to ask to gtlet the laparoscopy as I can't live like this anymore. I hope everything goes well in your scan. Let me know what happens. Its nice to have support from women who are going through similar things.
