I have stage 4 endo with bowel involvement. It's a long involved story (I'm 47) but have only ever had a diagnostic lap 7 years ago as kept resisting hormone treatments and other surgery.
At the mo, I have pain problems in right ovary and fallopian tube and regular spotting. I'm now at the threshold where I want some help, so was going to either do a hsyteroscopy (camera into uterus, spelling prob wrong soz) and have the mirena fitted - or a lap where as much excision is done as poss, ovary is removed and I get the mirena fitted.
Not sure if I should try the mirena first or just get excision done and see how it all feels after a few months. I've never had any removal/excision surgey so feel it might help. (I'm a bit of a resister of the Mirena as have heard horror stories on here and also react badly to hormone changes...)
The surgeon Ms Mavrides, at the Royal Free, Hampstead, if anyone wants to message me about their experience there...?
Thanks xx

Hi, I would suggest based on personal experience to have the laparoscopy with excision (with removal of your ovary if I read that right) and the hysteroscopy. My specialist did both in one go as he said it's easier when you're under general anaesthetic - they can do a hysteroscopy under local but that thought scares me! Alongside the hysteroscopy it's a good idea to ask for biopsies of anything odd they find.
If you're not sure about hormones then don't opt for the Mirena; makes sure it says "no" in your notes as I've heard some women say they don't mind only to find the surgeon did it anyway which means having it removed, should you have any problems, at your GP is often difficult.
Excision definitely helped me but do give yourself a few months (cycles) for your body to fully recover as they do a lot during surgery, then you should start to see improvements.
I did a *little* post about what I've gone through here:
that sounds like a good idea. Thanks for sharing your story, Farahziya. It does make sense to me to have the lap and then see how it has improved things and then try for the Mirena if t doesn't....otherwise any improvements will be just be masked by the hormones.Gio
