Hysteroscopy & Mirena

Hi guys, I'm new here and just looking for some advice. Bit of background, im 21 and I've been struggling with suspected endo since I was 15, horrendous pain, heavy bleeds and so on. I've finally seen a gyno and I have an appointment in 2 days for a hysteroscopy and to have the mirena fitted. I'm pretty scared about the whole thing but I'm just at my wits end with everything and I'm praying the mirena coil helps ease the pain and bleeds. Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Softball,I have the Mirena coil, so can tell you a few good things about it. For me, it's comfortable, and I don't feel it in place. The first month I had it, it really reduced the production of the monthly lining of the uterus, so I had a very light period. The following month, the period was even lighter. On the leaflet for the Mirena, it says that by the end of the first year, about 20% of women's periods stop all together (which is good news for helping to reduce the discomfort from endometriosis).

Hi,

I’ve had 2 hysterscopes, one under ga the other while awake. I would definitely recommend the asleep version. I don’t want to worry you but please look it up if you having it done awake, there are calls for it to be banned whilst awake. It’s not the camera that’s the problem it’s the biopsies that are. I had a mirena coil put in with the first hysterscope, I felt unwell and had lots of pain for a good 2 weeks, after that it was ok and other problems I’d had for 10 years went away. Still going well almost 4 years on.

Thanks! I dont believe they're doing any biopsies so hopefully it shouldnt be too bad, but I'm glad to hear the mirena has helped

Having the mirena coil fitted was one of the best things I've ever done. Sadly I didn't get it until my 50s, but at last I was pain-free, and it saw me through the menopause. I hear that they don't work for everyone, to I do hope this does work for you. No one had ever offered it to me, before, or I would have tried it. It would have been far better than an entire fertile life on the pill - which is basically what I did: it generally worked for me, but the mirena is better in terms of the amount of hormones in the body and because of its proximity to the site of the Endo tissue. I hope it works for you - best thing I ever did, after beloved Atlas-man.

Thanks! It sounds like it's going to be a good option so I can only keep my fingers crossed!
