Hi I’m 45, I’ve had a scan a week ago. Ive just find out I have a 17cm cyst on my left ovary. My stomach is very bloated and very painful on my left side. I look about six months pregnant! I noticed I had a long lump in my stomach that’s why I went to my GP. Not a face to face appointment, I had to text photos of my tummy! I have my appointment at the hospital next week. Gp said not to worry it doesn’t look like there is blood running though it. She said that’s a good thing. I’m just scared

Hi. Just wanted to reach out as my journey started similarly and we are around the same age. An ovarian cyst was found via ultrasound scan, prompted CA125 test (my levels came back as 412, normal is under 35), CT scan next then cancer MDT discussed results. This prompted a MRI, the results of which were bounced between cancer MDT and endo center. Only 6 months later have I been given confirmation they believe it is endo. I understand how scared you will be right now. Keep pushing for appointments and chase everything as I feel I would still be waiting if I wasn’t on the phone frequently chasing results or appointments.

Try not to let your mind jump to worse case scenario if you can. Easier said than done I know. X

Hi, I had the same size ovarian cyst removed 5 years ago aged 35. Strangely I had no pain with the cyst but I could see it protruding through my abdomen which is why I saw the G.P. I had an ultrasound and then an MRI scan. It was part solid and part liquid so they didn’t know until removed and tested what type of cyst it was exactly. I remember it being an extremely anxious time until the results were back. Nothing could reassure me so I understand your fear. It was fortunately benign and I’ve had no further problems or treatments since. It’s sounds as though your outcome will be the same. I hope you aren’t waiting too long.

That’s a big cyst! You will feel so much better once it has been removed! I had a 9 cm cyst removed from one ovary (the cyst was an endometrioma, and the keyhole surgery was very straightforward. Try not to worry and take it one day at a time. Best wishes for the appointment, hope it goes well x

I can second the comments above. I had a 9cm endometrioma removed (with my left ovary) this summer. My only symptom was my bulging belly. I also was very anxious and worried, especially while waiting for biopsy results. It was all good at the end though.

Try not to worry and for now trust what your doctor said that it’s looking ok.

Big hugs!

Hello! I'm sorry for asking but I was just wondering how you have dealt with having one ovary removed? I have a cyst measuring around 9cm which is being removed in a few weeks along with one ovary and I'm so worried about how having only one ovary will affect life and can't seem to find any experiences online (maybe searching in the wrong place!) Has it affected you hormonally? Thank you!!

Hi Lucy30D

I had a 10cm by 9cm dermoid cyst removed along with my left ovary in 2012. I have had no side effects from the removal and have led an active life style.

I hope this helps.

Hi I’ve had my Ct scan, what horrible experience. So uncomfortable. They said a have a small baby size cyst. Blood were ok it was 49 I think normal is 35. I’ve had a second blood test done. My Consultant thinks that my cyst is squashing my organs causing me to be a 49 and not a 35. She told my not to worry, but you can’t help but worry. I’m just waiting for a phone call now. I would like it out before Xmas. X
