NAC Supplement, possible help with endo

NAC - nac n-acetyl cysteine, has anyone else used this supplement . I’ve been taking it for 4 weeks and yesterday my period arrived . Usually I would be doubling up on painkillers , passing out and bed bound for the first day with my TENS machine stuck to me . Yesterday I woke up with a slight cramp, took some Ibuprofen and got up and went out for the day with only mild cramping . Have I stumbled across some holy grail in the fight against endo because I was amazed. I’m hoping it wasn’t just a fluke and that I’ll be like this for a while ! Apparently NAC works as an antioxidant working on inflammation within the body so makes sense it could help.

Hello, I've read the same so have started taking it today. Can I ask what dose you're taking per day? Are you taking it every day?

I hope it works for you every period. I've read it's very good for endometriosis and the pain caused by it.

Cheers

I am starting tomorrow, after having read about it. I will take a 600mg table 3 times a week 3 consecutive days every each week. There is some studies that show reduction in endometriomas size,so I hope it works for me as well.I am taking contraceptive pill as well.

Thank you. I hope it works out for you. I saw that too. As I don't have endometriomas I was hoping I could take a lower dose for pelvic pain so was wondering what dose she took to have that much of a reduction in pain.

I took one 600mg tablet 3 times a day for 4 days then 3 days off for the first month . Then I took 600 mg 2 times a day every day this month . Both months so far I have had a huge reduction in pain , I was able to go about my business as normal . I think I will continue the 3 600mg for 4 days as that worked best for me

Thank you. Did you have any adverse side effects from taking it 3 times a day?

Hi Emma, it's been about 4 months since your post. Is the NAC still working for you?

I'm just curious because it sounds helpful, and I might try it too.

Hi, I would say yes , the majority of my periods have been fairly ok and managed by painkillers , still been able to function etc . I did have one that was awful which caught me off guard as they have been so good since taking it but it’s definitely still working and helping with the pain , I also had a scan back in October which showed my ovaries were swollen and my lining was thickened . When I went back last month and had another it showed everything back to normal . For something that I’ve had zero side effects from ill definitely be keeping it up long term . Good luck if you do try it !

Thanks, Emma.

I'll give it a try and see if it helps.
