Bleeding on the pill

Hi everyone, hope you can help! I’ve gone back onto the pill to try to manage my endo pain. I’ve been on cerazette (which I hadn’t taken before) which was supposed to stop my periods. I’ve been on it for 2 months and have been taking double doses last 2 weeks but still get sporadic bleeding. I didn’t seem to get this when I took Yasmin back to back. Does this mean my endo could still be growing if I’m bleeding? Does it take some time for cerazette to stop periods? Thanks in advance x

Hi GabriJ,

I am on Cerazette and have been for most of the past 10 years. In my case, I am lucky to not have any bleeding as this helps with some of my symptoms. However, everyone is different and there is no guarantee that your periods will stop while being on Cerazette. My experience is that no periods are the norm, but according to the Cerazette leaflet you are as likely to experience irregular bleeding instead

"Cerazette is different from most POPs in having a dose that in most cases prevents the egg cell from ripening. As a result, Cerazette is a highly effective contraceptive. A disadvantage is that vaginal bleeding may occur at irregular intervals during the use of Cerazette. On the other hand you may not have any bleeding at all."

So it seems that your body is reacting in an expected way. I think it took a few months when I first started taking it before my periods disappeared, and last time I started it again I had my first period after but then it stopped. I'd recommend you keep trying for another month or two, but also keep in mind that this may be the way your body responds to this POP due to the dose of progesterone.

Best of luck!

Hi, I’ve been on cerrezette for 2 years now and I still experience bleeding. Although it says on the leaflet you have a 9 or 12 hour window to take the pill if you miss it, I litrally can’t be more than 5-10 minutes late or I will start my period. I just put it down to high oestrogen levels which the pill can’t override with the 1 a day dose. So if your taking it a little later than the time your suppose to be taking it every day maybe try sticking to it and see if it helps. X

Thanks Pinpops that’s really helpful and makes sense to my situation too. Yesterday evening I took the pill 30 mins later than usual and today have had a period (rather than just light bleeding which have been getting). I take 2 pills a day as I was told this would help bleeding but I wonder if I should take them at different times in the day rather than both at once- will have to ask the doctor.
