progesterone pill - pain and bleeding

Hi I’ve been aware I’ve had endo since 2016 when I was 35 and starting to try for a baby. My left ovary had a large cyst on it that had to be surgically removed. Other than that I was told I had mild endo at that point. It the took me a further three years to conceive (two failed ivf’s) and I naturally conceived in April 2019. My baby was born in Dec 2019 via c section and I ended up haemorrhaging six weeks post partum as placenta had been left behind. I had that removed, I then breastfed for 2.4 years until this past March (2022) and over the last six months since stopping I have a lot of endo like pain and swelling around my stomach. A MRI done last Dec 2021 showed I know have severe endo and andyemosis. I only got the results last month (sept 2022) and the consultant advised they put me on the progesterone only pill while they do another MRI. I started it a month ago and this month has been the most uncomfortable yet. My breasts were very sore for first few weeks but for the last week or two I’m having to take pain killers for the cramping and I’m bleeding. Has anyone else experienced anything like this on the progesterone pill? I thought it would make it less painful not worse. Will it just take a while to settle down? Thanks so much.

I went on mimipill after my lap. I was on noriday. My breasts did hurt quite a bit. I also bled a lot and inconsistently. I don’t recall sever pain but I’ve never had that anyway even though im stage 4. I stopped it after 2 1/2 mth as I was fed up with bleeding. However I’m going to try again and give it longer as since I’ve stopped my symptoms are returning. Aching in hips, back and thighs . And pressure in my bum. ( my endo is all near rectum ) .

thanks for replying. I’ve just got a fair amount of pain around my right ovary. I have an ultrasound this week with a good gynae and really hoping things will become clearer after that. I wonder how long the mini pill takes to settle down.

I think if it is actually making your symptoms worse it is worth contacting them again and asking for something else. Do you know why they are repeating the MRI and are they planning to go ahead with a laparoscopy?

hey thanks for getting back. I think they are doing the mri again as it took them 10 months to get me the results and in the last 5 months I’ve noticed a lot more pain and bloating. The idea was to put me on this pill to try and stop things getting worse. I’ve booked an ultrasound with a private gynae (who I know is excellent) next week to see if there’s anything urgent to deal with while I wait for second MRI. I have a lot of pain in my right ovary this month so I imagine things aren’t looking good there.

hey I’ve just seen the gynae for an ultrasound and she thinks the progesterone pill is exasperating my adenomyosis and causing it to grow and therefore putting pressure on my bowel. I was convinced my ovary was the cause of the pain but it’s fine apparently. Waiting now for a CT scan to see what’s going on. Has anyone else experienced this?
