Experiences with Zoladex

Hey everyone, I’m feeling very deflated right now.

Story cut short - I got my diagnosis of endo in January 2020 via lap (including diathermy treatment) after 12 years of suffering and complaining.

The op and treatment although my consultant said was successful, hasn’t worked and my pain has only been exacerbated.

I managed to bring my appt with my consultant forward from July to today (telephone appt) and spoke to him about an hour ago.

He has suggested trying Zoladex.

The way it was phrased is that it’s a temporary menopause? I’m 26. Temporary, yeah I get that and I understand if it helps the pain then it’s definitely worth it.

Just wondering what others experiences were who have tried Zoladex for endo.

Did it help your pain?

Side affects?

Those type of things.

He said to try it for 6 months in monthly injection form and after that he will refer me to the “endo lead” to discuss further surgery if I don’t get on with it or it doesn’t help.

Thanks for reading

I would suggest you do a lot of research on the drug it’s beneficial to some but not others it’s stops bleeding but not always pain or endo growth also if you wish to have children I would think more about it as the menopause you are talking has triggered people to have permanent menopause also bone problems like osteoporosis.periods which take longer to arrive when wanting children etc i was offered it and was told it will do nothing for endo growth as you say different for everyone but there’s are reason people are trying to stop the drug and keep renaming it it’s not long term

I’m very worried it would trigger early menopause as well, this is one of my main concerns about it. Thank you, I will definitely do more research

I’ve had three out of six so far, hasn’t made any difference so far. I’m at the point, or already past according to GP’s, for menopause. From my perspective it would have been great if it worked and bought on the menopause for real getting symptoms to go away.

Like most medication it does depend on the person, lots of thinking, pros and cons and questions to ask consultant.

I had zoladex on two occasions; the first time for 6 months and the second time for around two years. They let me stay on it for two years only if I took HRT. For me it was worth it it stopped a lot of the pain and the bleeding. My periods retuned after around six month and for me the endo returned eventually but the zoladex was worth it for the break from the pain. Personally I have found the Mirena has worked for me longer term but I appreciate its not for everyone.

I am sorry to hear of.your diagnosis and related pain etc. I am in the same boat as you but have been on Zoladex for 3 months. The way my consultant 'sold' it to me was to say that it would give your body a break and allow it to reset. So it has stopped my heavy heavy periods for 3 months, relieved my pain for 3 months but did give me hot flushes which wasn't always ideal. I have had a wee break though and a chance to build myself up to recommence the monthly battle.
