Laparoscopy Surgery and period

I’ve already asked nurses this question but have two different answers. One at NHS said no I can’t be on my period during a surgery and I asked another at a private hospital where my planned nhs surgery is now taking place said that it was fine to be on period. I’m due on again a few days before. I’d rather not be on at all. I was thinking Of taking medication to delay it but not sure if this is safe or not.

Hello TereseBear,

I hope you’re well.

I was on my period when I had my laparoscopy. The private consultant said it is better if you are on your period as they can see the extend of what is happening in your pelvis.

Wishing you the best of luck.

Hello! I had my lap the day my period came....all medical professionals involved didn't bat an eyelid. I know that being on your period during a smear test can give false results....maybe the nurse was confused!

Good luck! X
