I’m due to have my prostap injection tomorrow and I just wondered if there was anything I could do to pre-prepare. I’ve been warned the side effects can be worst in the first month , is there anything I should go out and buy etc?
Also to those have had it did you carry on use contraception? I’m sure I’ve read you carry on using contraception, but thought that seemed odd?
Thank you 💛

Hi, I had my last menopause injection a few weeks back and have been on them for about 7 months now.
For me personally, the sleep disruption was the worst symptom for me. My body didn’t get on with the HRT I was prescribed so during the first few months I would wake up about 6 times a night and that was after I’d struggled to fall asleep in the first place! Thankfully after my second appointment at gynae they changed my HRT and it became much better.
I still struggle with falling asleep so I’ve got lavender pillow spray, an electric diffuser that releases lavender oils, I’ve got lavender oils to burn in a wax melt and I even bought cooking lavender and cheese cloths to make lavender milk to drink before bed.
I can’t say 100% that these have helped but these last few months have certainly been easier, I don’t stay awake as long trying to fall asleep and I now only wake up once or twice a night, if at all.
And just one thing to be aware of with the Pro Stap and they can inject that into the stomach, arm or bum. If they inject in your arm, they do so quite high up so it goes through muscle- the first time I didn’t know this and then could barely move my arm a few inches for the next two days!
I had the mirena coil fitted when I had my first laroscopy and still have that in whilst going through menopause and taking HRT.
Highly recommend not to have the Prostap injection, it’s just a substitute for poor endo care. Excision surgery with an endo specialist is much better. They hand out these chemical menopause treatments without giving you the real information. It did not slow down my endo or shrink endometriomas etc, it just gave me a whole load of terrible side effects whilst waiting for surgery.
If you do go ahead, I would get a fan and a cooling pillow (to get sleep) hrt to help prevent side effects. Be aware of aching joints and if you are prone to any mental health issues then be aware that Prostap can make these ten times worse.
I am speaking from personal experience, don’t mean to scare you. I also highly recommend that you get the monthly injection rather than 3 months injection so it will leave your system quicker if you decide you want to stop.
They recommend still taking contraception for the small possibility of falling pregnant, the Prostap would be harmful.
