Preparing for laparoscopy

Hi

I’m having a large bulging fibroid removed in a few weeks time and they also believe I have endometriosis which they plan to remove at the same time.

Just wondering if there was anything I buy in now to help me recover from the pain/bloated feeling or anything else from having the surgery?

Peppermint tea is the only thing I can think of at the moment

Any other suggestions would be really appreciated x

Hello, I’ve never had a Laparoscopy before but I’m due to have one in a few weeks. I’ve been told to get fizzy pop, peppermint tea, mints and a heat pad. I hope they are helpful 😊

Thanks for your response!

I have a heat pad already so that’s a plus.. I bought mine from Argos if that helps you :)

Do you know why the fizzy drinks?

Oh great, thanks 😊 They didn’t actually say why fizzy drinks helped but they said that they have to blow air into your stomach and then they suck it back out at the end, but some of the air may get stuck... so I assumed the fizzy drinks would simply help you release this air.

Good luck for you too :)

Hi :)

I had a laparoscopy four weeks ago, and as you mentioned peppermint tea and fizzy drinks help get rid of the excessive gas. Also the heating pad alongside pain killers will help reduce the pain.

Make sure to wear comfy clothes and underwear as well.

And have some pads as you might bleed ( this happened to me, I had a light bleeding)

All the best of luck with your lap xx 😊

Thank you for your response! Hadn’t thought about comfortable clothes!

Yes I guess I best stock up on pads too... I just hope this resolves my issues.

How do you feel 4 weeks after your surgery? I’ve been told I’ll need at least 2 weeks off work.

Hi, I hope that will help solving your problem 🤞🏻

Actually I am feeling pretty well. The first week after the lap was the hardest (feeling tired and nauseous) so it is important to get rest and don't push yourself, but things get better afterwards. Xx

No problem hun xx

One thing too. Recovery depends on how much work they will do (excision I mean) I have read this on the net considering the recovery after a lap, but i hope you will feel better after two weeks or so. Xx

Thank you! I guess that makes sense... I’m also having a large fibroid removed too so it’s a two in one job! Xx
