Trying for a baby

Hi, I’m 22 and I have endometriosis. I’ve had two laparoscopies one were the endo was burnt out and another when it was cut out but this was a few year back. Unfortunately I still have pain every day and really bad flare ups, I had zoladex for about a year when I was 20 but that didn’t help either. I had the marina coil inserted for 4 years and recently got it taken out in January 2020 as me and my partner are wanting to start a family. I’ve had regular periods once coming off my coil and I’ve tried ovulation kits which have said I’ve been ovulating but still no positive pregnancy test. I’m just wondering if anyone has any advise as I’m starting to really worry that I’m maybe infertile or something 🙁

Thankyou xxxx

Hi,

Firstly, you're ovulating so that's good news!

I was in a similar situation but we're now on 14 month ttc and no luck sadly.

I use a fertility app called Ovia Fertility, you can track your cycles, do temps, ovulation test results etc. It's quite useful for noticing patterns too with your cycles etc. I've been taking a multivitamin too which I think they recommend and you can log it on the app also.

Usually if you don't conceive after a year you can be referred to a specialist. I know it can take longer to get pregnant with endometriosis than 'normal', so don't be too disheartened.

I know it's difficult not to think you might be infertile, but sounds like you're pretty early into trying. Doctors told me it can take a year for couples without any issues to get pregnant anyways,

I hope that helps a little :)

I was told at 22 the chances of me conceiving were slim to none. Once I came to terms with that I worked on my career, traveled and got a dog. Thinking I was never going to be a mum became my new normal. I battled endo and had surgeries followed by zoladex. At the age of 28 after a drunken weekend wedding in Dublin, and no birth control for years, I felt my hangover was lingering and spent days attached to the loo. Once my partner went to work I nipped to the chemist feeling like a crazy lady and got a pregnancy test. Positive result. Called gp who sent me to hospital for a scan as he was convinced it could have been cysts etc causing positive test. Nope! It was definitely a pregnancy. I was counselled and told the damage from endo scars were so extensive they did not think I would carry full term. I took my chances and even though I went into renal failure at 33wks, had emergency surgery and then went into labour, had to do it au naturel, had blood clots in my femoral artery, my son decided to look the wrong way and be back to back.........ok long story short..... I had a miracle of a son. My little gift from God. (what his name means). Thinking of my only shot at being a mum I was ecstatic to have just one little miracle. He was followed by a brother 2 years later to my absolute joy and the doctors sheer disbelief. I know it is so hard to be in the position of waiting and wanting but you need to look after yourself and try not to stress. Be as fit and healthy as you can, get your folic acid started and plot your ovulation accurately. There is hope and in the meantime lots of practice surely won't go amiss with the other half ;). Good luck and I am sure you will get where you need to be in time.
