Dye test for blocked fallopian tubes - need help interpreting result.

Hello,

I recently had laparoscopic excision surgery for endometriosis and the surgeon said he would flush my tubes to check if i might have issues conceiving naturally in the future. I don’t understand the result of this in the post-op letter and he was vague and dismissive when I asked him about it in the follow up (basically just repeated what he said in the letter) - so I’m hoping for help to interpret this:

“Dye test did not show any spill from both Fallopian tubes but the tubes were filled with dye. I am not convinced that the tubes are blocked but there was no visualisation of any spill but there was dye in the Fallopian tubes”

Can anyone who has had this test explain what is supposed to happen?

x

See this link here and read the last post from a radiographer - it sounds as though while seeing the spill during a dye test means your tubes are definitely clear, not seeing spill doesn't mean they are definitely blocked! Presumably why the doctor is giving such confusing messages in his report - he has to state what was observed (NB. it's a good sign your tubes filled up - clearly no blockage half way down) but he has to caveat that by saying that his findings don't necessarily mean a blockage. Sounds like you'll need a HSG (ultrasound) to find out definitively.
