Hydrosalpinx and blocked tubes.

So as you may have read I had my laparoscopy, hystocraphy and dye test Saturday morning and was glad to finally get answers. I have endo and a lession joining my ovary womb and bowl. The shock was being told my tubes are "groseley swollen" with hydrosalpinx I think they said in one tube . So doc then continued to say so obviously the tubes will need to be removed and that pregnancy naturally was impossible. This would likely be a bigger op and open surgery although there are a couple of docs that might do it by lap. He took a biopsy and said I would need to discuss everything at my appointment in 6-8 weeks so I just wandered if anyone else has this or has had op and is that likely to be the cause of a lot of pain or is that still likely to be caused by endo and lession?

Although this was all a big shock as the dye was only done to check tubes as a side issue while they were there as never had any luck conceiving. Wasn't expecting to be told it was impossible!

Feeling better today still sore but am up and feeling more normal today ! Thanks to everyone who wished me well xx

Sorry to hear that. Maybe a second opinion would be beneficial before you do something irreversible.

Did they try to unblock your tubes during the operation and failed? Mine were blocked too and they managed to unblock them by passing specific liquid or whatever the use! xx

Hi, know this is an old post, I just wondered if you managed to achieve pregnancy after having your tubes unblocked? I have just had both of mine unblocked

How were they unblocked? Both of mine are blocked due to hydrosalpinx.. I had an hsg done June 11th.

He said they tried to pass liquid through but couldnt even get a drop through it was only a diagnostic op so will discuss at next appointment but seemed pretty certain they needed removing! He'd put hydrosalpinx in notes when nurse read through it and said that means its full of water! He said can happen from infection, trauma or previous op and had surgery years ago so thinks maybe could be from that. I was still groggey from anesthetic but nurse went through notes and pictures and didn't look good! 6-8 weeks is a long wait so just looking into it myself. He did say they took biopsey but not sure what of !

My gyni was very good when I first met him and this was different doc so will be interesting to see what my doc says as he's highly rated in gyni ill see if he has a different veiw but not feeling hopeful.

Thanks for replying and glad to hear they managed to unblock yours this is all new to me had only Realy researched endo!

Fingers x for you that everything will be all right.

Once tubes are blocked even if they manage to unblock them, they can easily block once again, so I'm holding back being very excited. If i cant conceive within a few months i have to go back to my gynae for more tests...

Yes they are right about what they said, they can block from many things, infections, previous operations, endo etc. Oh well, I had all of these! :/

Wishing you best of luck and keep your hopes high! :) xx

Thanks fingers crossed you have some luck too IVF was briefly mentioned but from what I've read having hydro reduces success rate so would need sorting first but don't want to jump to conclusions before I speak to doc so just going to have to wait and see what happens. I wish they would do the follow up sooner it feels like I'm just constantly waiting!

Im hoping no big ops it was hard enough to have a week off work let alone planning time off for a big op! All very scarey but trying to keep a brave face! Need to recover from this one before I stress myself out again!

Hey I had this exact problem and just had the surgery to sort it out 5-6 weeks ago. Feel free to ask anything you like. My problem was 2 ovarian cysts, severe adhesions which is known as a 'frozen pelvis', and hydrosalpinx. During the op they found my bowel was stuck to my back also so they had to remove. Both tubes were removed so now only IVF for me. Feel free to ask away, I could write a book!

Hi, do you mind if I ask you some q's? Did you have open surgery to remove tubes or lap? How long was your recovery? Will they do a hsg test before they start surgery? I was diagnosed with hydro in both tubes after a scan. Surgery next week...eek x

Sorry that should read remove my bowel from being stuck to my back, not remove my bowel all together ??

Hi Lillyflower,

I hope you are recovering well from your lap.

Unfortunately I can't say much about what they find. Hopefully your own gyn will be able to give you more options.

Hi sarahdoha

Wow you have had a lot done. They only pointed out one main lession but the shock of being told my tubes were that bad and need removing is my main worry at the moment. Did you have open surgery or by lap? How have you coped knowing IVF is only option? Are you going to try that next? I'm 35 but my husband is 45 does that make us too old? Since having your tubes removed has the pain reduced? Sorry so many questions whizzing round my head. I'd looked into endo and was prepared for that but this is all new to me. I spose being told there's no way ill get pregnant naturally is the first shock even though I'd suspected a problem I had a little hope that it would be something minor that they could sort. I'm going round in circles thinking ok ill never have kids that's fine then a complete u turn!

I hope you are recovering well and thankyou for your message its so nice to hear from someone who is in the same situation.

Thankyou xx any advice is helpful xx

Hey lillyflower

Dont lose hope, even if it is IVF, the success rates are excellent! :)

Even in the worst case scenario, there is always the option of surrogate mother and of course adoption. I dont know if I ever manage to have naturally a baby but I'm willing to go all the way and have him/her one way or another. Thank God there are many options ;) xxx

Hi thanks jojo, I have always thought I'd like to adopt but my husband would prefer to have our own, there's so much to think about! Before the op I said I'm not worried about fertility just want pain sorted but now the choice has been taken away without help I'm actually more bothered than I thought id be. I'm trying to stay positive and know adoption may be an option we could look into so I still have hope of a child one day even if its not from me .

I wish you all the luck in the world that you have a child one day and we must think positive as yes there are options and I have so many nieces and nephews that there are plenty of children to keep me busy until then xx

Thanks its nice to hear someone remind me there's hope I'm normally a very positive person so just need to keep telling myself that.

Thanks xx

Hi lillyflower, I was trying to find your other post and came across this. Just wanted to say I'm really pleased you got answers to know what's going on but can totally understand why your head is spinning now.

I think I've remembered from your first post I think you'd been TTC for 7 years or so (I'm 6 yr, nearly 7, and remembered we were fairly similar unless I got it wrong :) ) - its still early days though so give yourself time to know what you want to do.

Your OH might feel different about adoption now you have a better idea of what's going on and it sounds like you still have options.

Wishing you well with your recovery.

I totally understand what your going through. Last feb 12 I had excison surgery which involved in excising the cysts on both ovaries and endo on my bowel etc, also ending up taking out my appendix out as it was covered in endo, I also had a dye which showed my tubes were patent.

We then gave ourselves a year of trying naturally before going down the ivf route. I went for a scan check up last week and was told I had a small cyst on my ovary and that both tubes were swollen and filled with fluid called hydrosaphinx and that my best chance of ivf working is to have my tubes removed as the fluid can kill the embryos as its toxic and also getting pregnant naturally is very silm. I was very shocked to hear that as a year ago my tubes were fine!

Seeing my consultant in 4 weeks time and got loads of questions to ask and I am also upset that it come to this as all I want is a family of own and doesnt help that everyone around is pregnant. I will of been trying nearly 5 years now. I am too confused about what to do :( xx

Hi thanks for your reply komera and em09, I'm trying to keep positive as there are always options until I'm told otherwise! Yes years of trying we all sound similar and I thought maybe there was an issue but hopefully would be sorted I've heard the dye can flush the tubes and then people fall pregnant so I guess I thought maybe that would happen but now I know and will have to see if IVF will be an option. Em I have read about it being toxic but at least if our tubes are removed the chances of successful IVF double so at least they will discuss this with you before you start trying. I know what you mean so many questions , I hope you get some answers at your appointment in 4 weeks think ill be waiting a bit longer so I hope all goes well and would be interested to know how you get on. All my sisters and in-laws have children or babies so I know exactly how you feel. Are you still suffering with your endo or did they manage to remove it all? It's strange they saw yours on a scan as 3 months ago I had scans and was told all fine very strange. I guess they were only looking for cysts so didn't check. I think there's going to be a lot of questions but hopefully some positive answers too so I wish you lots of luck xx we must stay positive xx

Hi they managed to remove all of the endo, I think there might be a tiny bit on my bowel which was too risky to remove but I have no problems with it now apart from the odd spotting which is due to my damn cyst which always to come back even after excising it!

My tubes appeared to be really swollen (looked like sausages on the pic!) which is sign of hydro, I could be wrong but if your tubes are ok they dont appear on the scan? saying that I had a scan 6 months ago and everything seemed fine so I want to know why 6 months on it suddenly appeared! I will pm you when Ive seen my consultant if you like? Its wrong that they make us wait so long to get some answers and that we resort to googling and scaring ourselves silly xx

Hi that's great they managed to remove most of the endo that's one less thing to worry about for now. My nurse said she thinks they burnt some of mine away, when the doc gave me results he spoke more about tubes than endo so will have to wait and ask about that. It's so strange my tubes definitely looked likedsausages, that's exactly how I described then to my hubby, so now I know they can be seen on scan I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned. Or maybe they just didn't tell me! I know what you mean about googling and scaring yourself looking at some info is scarey but there is hope and I have read they can re open tubes but they can refill. It's all very confussing but keep strong. That would be great if you message me ill be really interested to hear how you get on and fingers crossed they give you positive news x
