Chronic Acid Reflux?

I was due to have my laparoscopy on the 21st April due to Covid 19 it has been cancelled. When I had my pre op the nurse recommended to see my doctor about getting strong medication for my acid reflux as she was concerned it was doing actual damage. The doctors will not see me as it’s not a emergency however I can’t sleep or eat. It’s so bad I am throwing up. I’m taking rennies & gaviscon but nothing it working, I’m in so much pain. Can anyone recommend ANYTHING that has worked for them.

Xxx

Hi Megbx,

Sorry to hear of your painful acid reflux. This is something I suffer with as well, I have found some relief with Rennies but the best solution for me is to avoid triggering foods. Foods that have high acidic content (fatty foods, alcohol, garlic, raw onions, some fruits, tomatoes etc), but I also find coffee can trigger it - which is really hard when you're an acid coffee drinker like me!

I've found this article on NHS website that provides more detail on how your diet can affect acid reflux:

nhs.uk/news/food-and-diet/c...

This may help ease your symptoms whilst you wait for access to prescription medicine.

Best wishes,

Hello, I suffer the same.

It’s not ideal as you will probably have to pay but you can order omeprazole 20mg or 40mg from an online pharmacy.

I use the 40 mg and they work.

In a similar situation myself, my doctor was concerned about prescribing me anymore until she’d seen me but now can only have telephone appointment so will be ordering some more online. X

Your GP is still running a service, likely by telephone, but if they decided you need to see someone you would. They can still do prescriptions and send direct to the pharmacy local to you or an online pharmacy that does NHS prescriptions.

I prefer to use the online econsult which will be on your surgery website, it’s normally quicker. Don’t wait for all this to be over to feel better. Hope you get sorted.

Im supposed to have silent reflux and have omeprazole. I’m not convinced and even wondering if there’s a link to endo.
