Endo & acid reflux

Hi Girls, do any of you suffer from really bad acid reflux? I used to get it a few times a month. But in the last couple of months I've noticed I get it more often now. Like every other day. Its uncomfortable, embarrassing & uncontrollable. I feel so sick with it & can't eat anything. Just wondered with having stage 3/4 Bowel Endometriosis + endo on my left side of my womb do you get any acid reflux symptoms?

Hey, I have suffered from acid reflux before but that was because I got really drunk one night and was being sick so much I popped 2 blood vessels and started to cough up thick blood. They told me at the hospital that it was an acid reflux. I also last year had surgery for my endo and they told me my bowel had moved onto a different organ. I do feel sick quite a lot of the time but I didn’t know acid reflux could relate to your endo? Maybe that’s why I had it I’m not too sure, but I know how you feel because it feels like you permanently have something stuck at the back of your throat so I can’t imagine what it must be like if you’re having it that often x

They also gave me acid reflux pills which helped if the doctor hasn’t given you them yet?

Hi, thanks for your reply, I was given omeprazole aged and shes ago. I only ever needed to take one as when I needed it. Which turns out was only a few a month. I've since ran out and it's got a lot worse. Like I said every other day. The only time I'm free of this is when I go to sleep. I even wake up and have it even without eating? I wont be having any more surgery until I've had a baby now. So I'll just have to put up with all. But I'll definitely go back to my doctor and get some more omeprazole.

Hello there,

Yes yes yes! I get awful acid reflux and I'm stage 4. I find certain foods makes it worse e.g. i cannot eat read meat, dairy and a fizzy drink in one sitting so I'm clever about it. I carry round gavascon everywhere! It helps to settle it. I get a horrid cough with it. They can also prescribe omerprezole at the doctors this settles it in the stomach rather than having the after effect.

Hope you're okay!

Hi, thanks for your reply. It does feel like certain foods my trigger it? I have coeliac disease too so I dont have gluten, i have gone Dairyfree, no red meat & no caffeine for years now. I feel it gets worse first in the morning before I even eaten and at night time. I used to be on omeprazole ages and age ago. My go gave them to me as I kept coughing randomly. I had acid burps. I only needed to take one as and when I needed to. Which was a few a month. But now it's out of control so I'll have to go back to my gp and get more as last time I only got prescribed 2 weeks worth. I have been buying over the counter tablets to help and hey don't touch it. Not even gavascon.

Yeah for sure food trigger it. Also any meds youre on triggering it. I take mefamic acid and it seems like that can flare it up too!

On the off chance it might apply, if you are on any anti- inflammatories like Tranexamic acid or Mefenamic acid for your endo symptoms (such as for excessive bleeding), they will be hard on your stomach and cause or enhance heartburn and indigestion. I take both and had to have a prescription of Omeprazole issued as I was suffering almost constantly. It has made a massive difference for me.

Hi I suffered really badly with acid, I had a constant burning sensation from my stomach to my throat which made it difficult to eat and drink. I’m now taking Omeprazole gastro resistant capsules prescribed by my gp they make a massive difference

Yes, every few months I have a bout of acid reflux that is so bad I can’t sleep at night (the burning in my throat and nausea). I take omeprazole 3 nights in a row, and then go every other night on days 5, 7, and then stop. This is usually enough to “reset” my stomach chemistry. Also, if I know I’m going to eat a trigger meal (like having wine as well as tomato sauce in pasta, pizza, creole), I’ll take a ranitidine before the meal. If you have issues with it, make sure you sleep on two pillows. The acid in your throat can cause all sorts of issues. Thee have been occasions when I thought I had strep throat or an ear infection. Both times, it turned out the acid was just making my sinuses drain and adversely affecting my entire ear, nose, throat health.

I didn’t know I had acid reflux until my first lap. The anesthesiologist pointed it out to my surgeon after intubating me... said my throat was raw and bloody, one of the worst cases of GERD they’d ever seen.

I suspect that estrogen dominance and inflammation are linked to GERD.

Have you tried taking Vitex (angus castus) as a tincture or oil capsule? It is supposed to help raise your progesterone to balance the estrogen. I take it daily. Also, in the US I have friends who are prescribed natural progesterone- its working wonders for them. I haven’t had it prescribed living here in the UK.

Yes mine has been increasingly bad. I wonder if all the pain meds we take have just wrecked our insides. I'm really good about taking my omeprazole for about 2 weeks every month and it does help. Nothing else touches it. My diet is really good so I know it's not that. Just seems to be our bodies finding a new way to wreck havoc!

Have just found out hve endeomitritis and have had it for many years. Just had full hysterectomy. For years have had reflux, difficult to deal with it and doctors often try to insist it is asthma, when I know it is not, Ive had asthma and it is very different
