i'm scheduled to have a laparoscopy on the 31st march, it is in a private hospital and so far has not yet been cancelled. although i expect it will be called off, saying the hospital does not cancel operation would it be better to postpone it myself? will the operation make the risk of getting the virus higher/ get a less mild version of it?
i'm not sure if the best thing to do is postpone it until it has all calmed down again
thank you x

Hi! I’ve just had my op today (currently on the word post-op) I thought they’d cancel mine too and I worried about the current situation but I gathered that I’m just as likely to get it stood next to someone in a queue at Tesco. I don’t think they will cancel with it being private, however I guess it all goes on what government are saying and if the hospitals are actually able to staff the procedure. Fingers crossed for you. I’m now off for 2 weeks also so essentially self isolating anyway x
Hope your op went well and are feeling okay. Yeah I’m just going to be careful the next couple weeks to stay healthy and hopefully will be able to still get it done. Thank you x
Hi , my daughter is in same position. We took the plunge for her to have the op to remove her endometriosis on a private basis next week as there's no telling how long the waiting list will be now. I am concerned and we are desperately trying to keep her we until then (as well as ourselves). I think we have to rely on the advice of the medical professionals. I wouldn't cancel unless advised to do so. Good luck x
Yeah I wasn’t getting anywhere with the nhs waiting times and the gynaes I was seeing with them, just got to the point where I was so desperate to get something done so went private. Hope your daughter is okay and manages to get the help she need. Thank you x
Hi, first up sorry to hear you need the lap, but rest assured once in hospital, if they go ahead it will be because they will have taken all measures necessary to get you in and out with little to no risk.
Even if you did contract the virus, my concern would be less about you becoming very ill because you just had surgery, but rather that it would be bloody painful to be coughing in those early days after it Avoid sneezine and coughing believe me lol! That will depend on whether they do much invasive stuff when in there too. If only an investigation you will be back on track after a few days.
As others mention, stay well for now, eat well, hydrate and rest well so you are healthy for procedure day. This is likely to go on for few months, if the lap is needed, then you need to prioritise getting it done and letting the medical professionals guide you. Wishing you well!
I hadn’t considered the coughing aspect of it post op, sounds very sore 😬 should be ver minimally invasive as it’s just a diagnostic lap + treatment depending on what they find so fingers crossed will be alright. Will be extra careful to stay well these next few weeks just to be sure, thank you! X
Hi there, I had a hysterectomy exactly a week ago and I too was very fearful over this virus however I have been assured that we are not at greater risk bit just to self isolate straight after along with your whole household as somebody else has said coughing after surgery is not pleasant! I would certainly not postpone as you don't know how long you may be waiting after all of this uncertainty in the Health Sector. Best of luck either way x x x x x x
