Laparoscopy Nerves

Hello lovelies,

Hope you're all relitivley pain free today!

I have my first diagnostic laparoscopy on Monday after 5 years of battling to get answers! I just finished my last day at work before the op & it all feels really real now & I feel sick from worrying so much :( not worried about the actual operation I'm terrified I'm going to wake up to them saying the dreaded words 'everythings normal'

Has anyone got any coping techniques for the days before the operation? Literally going out of my mind worrying they're not going to find anything then I'll be back at square one waiting to be referred back to urology & to gastro :(

Hi MidgetSammi,

I completely understand this fear, the night before my laparoscopy I had talked myself round to the fact that I didn’t have endometriosis and it would be a waste of time.

But my partner reminded me that it’s only a diagnostic and if they don’t find anything it’s not a bad thing, it’s just ruling something out and we keep searching.

I had mine on Monday, and they found extensive endometriosis and some adhesions. Where they have found it to me adds up with the years of symptoms I’ve had, it finally all makes sense, and feel silly for having doubts beforehand now.

I hope you get the answers you’re after from the lap, good luck! :)

I’m due to have my laparoscopy in May and I keep worrying the same too what if they don’t find anything, I don’t want to have endometriosis but I feel I will have ran out of options of what to do to figure out what this pain is.

Do you know how long you have to have off work? I think it depends on if they end up doing anything during the laparoscopy, but I’ve only just started my new job 3 weeks ago so worrying about having a fair amount of time off.

Hi MidgetSammi, Hope the laproscopy went well and you got all the answers you needed. Coping mechanisms in your recovery is to try and keep yourself mentally occupied, take as much time as you need in recovering as everyone is different. Once you feel up to it take it slowly for a couple of weeks as you may find tiredness is the worst factor in recovery.

Hope everything goes well

Hey,

I have mine scheduled for the end of April and I’m feeling the same way. As much as I don’t want to have Endo, i’d at least like to have an explanation for the pain I’m in.

Currently coping wise, I fine that reading support groups feeds such as this one is really helping me.

I hope you get the answers you’re looking for.

Best of luck!

Good luck with the lap. I had mine just over two weeks ago. They found an Endometrioma which burst when they touched it and endometriosis patches elsewhere. Got to see the pictures which were not pretty! You asked how long you might be recovering. It does depend on what they do and how you react to that and the anaesthetic. I wasn’t back to normal after two weeks and the Dr said I shouldn’t rush back, and she then signed me off for two further weeks. I’m glad, as I went to a friend’s house today and all I did was sit and stand and I can really feel it now (although I’m due on so that could be why). Let us know how you get on x
