Recently had an appointment with the OBGYN and the examination caused me 24 hours of abdo pain, but she suggested the mirena coil. I’m so so scared that this will cause me even more pain?
Anyone got any thoughts or advice on what to do?
Cheers

I had the mirena coil fitted in October 2018. At first it felt very strange, uncomfortable and painful, with pressure and pulling sensation. This did settle after a couple of months. The fitting was painful but manageable. I took some painkillers prior to my appointment.
I've had friends who have had absolutely no pain at all on the coil and it's completely changed their lives - I had it however and it was like bad period pain for about 6 months until I had it removed. There are other options, so you need to consider if you want to potentially go through some pain in order to try it.
I get pain after examinations and smear tests. I can’t comment on the coil procedure because I had mine during laparoscopy. I would ask personally if I can have some kind of anaesthetic or sedation (not even sure if you can). I will say the mirena has been a godsend to me. Some initial bleeding and off pain at first but so much better than what I was experiencing.
I took painkillers 1h before as they said The staff suggested me to try without any extra local anesthetic, but if I knew how painful it would be, I would have required it since the beginning. When they start it is endurable, so I thought I would get it, but in my case, it turned too painful and I got a really bad mood. If they can avoid us to suffer, they should have done since the beginning because we are already going through a lot.
This was in April of 2019. The only difference is the tough mood swings. But one of my friends had it completely rejected, she had abdominal pain for months and even a key hole surgery (yes the doctor prefered this instead removing the coil first...). After all, a different consultant suggested her to have it removed since it could be the womb contracting to eject it and she got it resolved.
Hiya, it is painful to have placed and I'm still waiting for mine to settle down it's nearly 6 months. I'm afraid that everyone is different, I know of some that swear by it and it's a god send where as I am not a major fan but that's coz I'm still having issues.
I had mine fitted today and it was really painful. Felt like I was going to thrown up and they said they were glad I went there (coil clinic) because Doctor would have had difficulty putting it in. I knew something wasn't right. I am finding it difficult now to walk around. Sorry don't mean to scare you, I just wanted to vent. But like others are saying, we are all different and deal with it in different ways.
I had the Mirena put in October 2018, for the first 7 months it was touch and go, I went back at 3 months demanding they take it out.
They told me my body needed more time and to stick with it and if at 6-7 month mark I still wanted it out they would.
I'm so glad I stuck with it, i still get pain and sometimes it crippling, but it isnt as bad as it was. I recommend it to everyone now, takes a little getting used to, but it helped me alot.
If you want my personal opinion, give it a try, they can always take it our after however long if you don't..but if you dont try it, you'll never know, it could be the best thing that you've done to help towards your pain.
Hey I have really painful internal exams anything that involves a speculum. So I asked for my coil to be fitted under GA as I pass out from smears so knew there was 0 chance of being able to have it awake. Honestly the first month was hell. I was in so much pain my Dr thought it may have reptured my uterus. It didn't.
BUT it's now been in place for 5/6 months and my periods have stopped and so has most of my endo pain. I still get the odd twinges but nothing like it was. So for me that month if hell was worth it. I told myself that if after 4 weeks it wasnt any better then I'd have it removed but it started to ease after 4 weeks then after another 3-4 weeks the pain had fully subsided. Had I think 1 period after that and since then nothing. But I have fairly light periods anyway.
