I had a lap and excision for endo last year where I also had a Mirena coil fitted during the procedure.
Long story short- since the op, I have developed a whole host of strange symptoms... a malar rash (but not testing pos. in bloods for SLE lupus), worsening aches and pains in joints, palpitations and a heart rate that sits around 110 bpm.
No one really knows what’s going on. I’m waiting for results from a 24hr urine test to look for catecholamines and endocrine things (???) and my ecg tapes are showing a speedy SVT/inappropriate sinus tachycardia.
SO, my question is - if you put a foreign object (Mirena) in the body of someone with a history of autoimmune diseases (endo) both personally and in their family (lupus, thyroid)... could it trigger new autoimmune responses???
I’d find any responses or thoughts or comments really useful at this point. I’m considering getting the coil removed despite it seeming to help adeno.
Thank you!!! Rosie xxxx

Hi there, do you have Thyroid issues? I have lots of these symptoms and only have half my thyroid. I had Mirena inserted during my lap, but my body rejected within a week ! x
Hi Adele, thanks for your reply ☺️ all my bloods seem to come back clear for thyroid, although thyroid issues do run in my family. And you’ve just reminded me - my Mirena was expelled at one point too! I just don’t think my body likes it at all but my specialist seemed to think it was the best treatment plan x
I spent 2 days giving birth to my Mirena before it finally came out, was awful ! Surgeon insisted it was my best option but my body said no, never again!
Although your results may show normal there is a very wide range they consider normal but might not be optimum. There is Thyroid UK page on here with lots of experts, if you have your results and feel happy posting them you may get some good advice x
Ouch, it’s horrible isn’t it!! I was on lots of post-op meds so thankfully don’t remember much of it but they put it straight back in again!!
Ah that’s really interesting, thank you for letting me know about that! I’ll definitely ask for the exact results and have a look on the thyroid uk page, thanks for the advice xx
Gosh yes it was awful, all the post op meds didn't take the edge off at all I thought I was dying! I ended up going to urgent care with it in my hand 🤣
Definitely worth more investigation, hopefully the Thyroid community will be able to offer some help x
Was you on any meds before surgery which you have now come off ?thing is with some of these medications can mask underlying issues so you might have had these before but they were masked things like prostap cause aches and pain in joints and it’s regularly used before surgery but a lot of endo symptoms can be masked and new symptoms arise
Hi there, I’ve been on duloxetine since before my surgery so nothings changed unfortunately ☹️ I agree though, they can definitely mask things! I’m tempted to get my coil removed to see how I feel without it in me because I don’t think my body likes it unfortunately, even though my specialist recommend it xx
