What should I expect with a mirena coil?

I’m having a laparoscopy on the 29th and at the same time having a mirena coil inserted.

I’ve had a lap before but what about the mirena coil? How effect is it for treating symptoms of Endo and will it cause any discomfort?

Thanks

I've had mine in for less than a month. I had very bad cramps for a few days after it going in, which then settled down. I'm still getting occasional cramps, but not as bad as soon after insertion. Too soon to tell how it's affecting my endo, but I'm hopeful!

I had my mirena inserted at the doctors. I had cramping and watery bleeding after. Mine hasn’t particularly helped my issues, but I’m waiting for surgery so I’m hoping it will help the re growth after and by then should have settled some more. Defo no horror stories from me! I’d say you’ll be in more pain from the op then the coil. Hope all goes well x

Had my coil fitted in my lap last September- coil hasn’t helped me unfortunately had more bleeding than I usually do each month and booked in for another lap for re growth in less than a year.

I have heard that it has worked wonders for some people tho so I think it’s just depending how your body reacts to it.

Hi, I had mine when I had my lap in March. It made me very moody at first, went into absolute rages over small things which is not me at all. I then bled lightly for 4 months straight. I went to the Dr and got mefanemic acid which helped with the bleeding and the cramps and now I'm quite happy with it. It takes around a year to settle down so stick with it if you can. It's considered the gold standard of hormonal birth control in the treatment of endo. Unlike the pill it still allows you to ovulate (this might take a few months) so doesn't completely shut down your reproductive system. In my opinion this is important as ovulation is good for you. I'm 6 months in and honestly, the first 3 months were pretty awful. Super bad cramping nearly every day and continual bleeding. But once my cycle sorted itself out, it's been amazing. I would say the worst bit was actually the insertion, so getting it done during surgery will make the whole experience a whole lot better.

Stick it out past the 3 month mark, because it should get better, and if at 6 or so months you really don't like it you can just get it removed at a normal GP surgery.
