Endometrioma?

Hi everyone

During bowel surgery 18 months ago the surgeon removed a cyst from my ovary which, after biopsy, was confirmed as an endometrioma. Do this mean I have endometriosis as I get conflicting options from my GP & gynaecologist? I was put on Zolodex by my gynaecologist for a few months & then had a laparoscopy in July this year where a large dermoid cyst was removed but no endometriosis was found. They trialled a mirena & I kept it for 3 months but had awful side effects so have now had it removed. I still get pain most days & my GP has referred me to the pain management team. I think he’s fed up of me tbh and thinks I just want pain killers and keeps reiterating that NO Endo was found at my laparoscopy.

Do I have Endometriosis? Can you get Endometrioma and not have Endo?

I’m baffled

TIA 💛

I don't know much about Endometriomas as I've not had one, but a quick google suggests:

Endometrioma is a type of cyst formed when endometrial tissue (the mucous membrane that makes up the inner layer of the uterine wall) grows in the ovaries. It affects women during the reproductive years and may cause chronic pelvic pain associated with menstruation.

I don't know if there's a link between endometriomas and endometriosis as I've not really researched into it so cannot see any medical papers on it. Hopefully someone will be able to help you or advise based on their experience.

Were you seen by an endometriosis specialist during your lap? They'll be able to see endo, know what to look for and look in the more hard to reach less obvious places.

As you're still in pain perhaps go back to your GP or specialist and ask for a referral to an endo specialist, it can't harm to have a specialists view then see where to go from there.

Sorry I'm not much help xx

Ah that helps my understanding :)

Lindle anything on fibroids? As my doc has said I have one well it looks like it from my ultrasound, but not said anything else, I haven't chased it up either though as my focus was on my endo at the time; but now I'm wanting to research more into it. Happy to pm you.
