Endometrioma

Hey guys,

I had my left ovary and tube removed last year. I have since found out I have a 9cm Endometrioma on my right ovary.

I am obviously devastated with hearing this because I only have the one ovary. I have heard that removing it can cause diminished functioning of the ovary.

Does anyone have any success stories when they’ve had endometriomas? I’m terrified I will not be able to have my own children and that my ovary has been rendered useless

So sorry now you have an endometrioma on ther other side. With only 1 ovary left you may consider having your eggs collected and frozen beforehand? The trade off is that the medication may grow the cyst even more, but you would have some eggs ready in case the ovary is damaged. I would def consider this option. Good luck xx

Hi, I already asked about having my eggs collected first and was basically told it wouldn’t work because the cyst is so big and encompassing my ovary, and when you stimulate the ovary it enlarges it and will do more harm than good! xx

I had a large endometrioma (7cm) removed from my left ovary and then at IVF that operated ovary was working fine and I had good eggs collected from that one. Tell the Doctors you definitely would like to be a mum in the future so they can preserve fertility as much as possible. I can only say endometriosis sucks!! But we have success stories of pregnancies after these surgeries in the forum, don't give up! Good luck xx

Thank you!! We have been to hell and back - been TTC since dec 16. All the surgeons tell you is negative things because obviously they can’t get our hopes up. I just feel like it’s never going to happen. I feel better hearing your story though, so thank you x

Same as me, I started TTC in Dec 16. Then had a MC, the surgery, then an endometrioma came back... but then IVF was successful and am currently 9 weeks pregnant. I felt completely lost without a clear plan and with all things happening out of my control, it is absolutely normal. Focus on your surgery, recover well from that and then check your options with your FS. I will keep my fingers crossed for you xxx

Thank you SConnor. I really hope your pregnancy is easy for you. I also had a MC in December 16. Sorry, I came off the pill in dec 15 not 16! Then it all went downhill from there really - ovarian abscess, cyst, removal of left ovary and tube, I have had 3 laps and 1 laparotomy. All for a baby. Seems crazy doesn’t it lol xx

Hi, I am sorry to hear that. I have a similar problem with my one remaining ovary. I had my left one removed 10 years ago due to a large dermiod cyst. I now have a large dermiod and endometrioma on my remaining ovary. Very upsetting as I wanted to have children and not go through an early menopause ideally. Have you met with your consultant to go through the options? I was told that I would need surgery, then drugs to try and manage the endo. I hope you get it sorted, you're not on your own. Take care. It’s so rubbish isn’t it?? I haven’t yet met with my consultant. That’s being put in motion now. I understand he doesn’t have any appointments until January but I don’t really want to wait that long! Were you told your ovarian reserve may go down as a result? Thank you for your kind words. I hope yours gets sorted too x

I was diagnosed with Endometriosis after a large chocolate cyst ruptured. I was found to have a 10 cm cyst on the other ovary at that time. 14 months later, I had more surgery as both ovaries had 8 to 10cm cysts on them. I did get pregnant twice afterwards ( while waiting for more surgery) but both pregnancies ended in missed miscarriages. I didn't want more surgery at that point as was hoping I'd concieve naturally again. I can't say if it was pure coincidence or if this actually helped but I went on the Endometriosis diet & took Bee Propolis ( the diet was for around 6 months & Bee Propolis around 1.5 - 2 years ) & when I went for a scan the start of the year before IVF they only found one small cyst which I was told wouldn't interfere with the IVF. My first IVF cycle has given me a baby boy due in just over 2 weeks aged 41! Don't get me wrong, Endometriosis is awful & totally messed up my head. I'd also have preferred to conceive naturally but even if you need IVF in the future please never give up hope. Wishing you all the best. X

Thanks for your response and I am pleased you got your miracle baby!! I am going to have to try and be more positive about it. It’s not all doom and gloom I guess. I am going to look into the endometriosis diet too, I didn’t know there was one! xx
