Hello girls, day 3 post laparoscopic treatment for endometriosis with a cystoscopy and mirena fitting and I'm coping just about! But I have been getting an awful pain only after bowel movements and I can't seem to get an answer on what it could be after a visit to the hospital, so wondering if anyone else has had it. I've been dealing with the gas pains and little bits of pain every now and again from the 3 wounds but that's to be expected.
Basically I only started having bowel movements again this morning, though I wasn't constipated or straining to go, it was normal. But afterwards I started getting what I can only describe as a very dull period ache, it was very strong, and I didn't cope well with that at all. I had to go for another bowel movement and again afterwards that pain was worse.
I ended up going to the hospital it was that bad and have had everything checked, my temp, blood pressure, urine, pulse, abdominal exams and everything is coming up fine. They didn't take bloods though. I've been scared to have another bowel movement if I'm honest in case it happens again, it was so painful. I've been not taking the codeine as it will stop me going to the loo so have just been taking paracetamol routinely and it has helped.
Has anyone else had this after their surgery? Could it be with the mirena?

I had the same surgery as you on Thursday and could have written this post myself. I don’t know the answer - I suspect it’s because of everything inside being tender but the pain after going to the toilet yesterday knocked me out for 2 hours!
in June. Between the anesthesia and pain medication causing constipation, and me likely not drinking as much water (or eating much), it was bad. I ate some porridge, had lots of fruit (for the fiber), and drank apple juice, the next day it was a bit better. It got better day by day. By day 10 post lap I was okay. Good luck!!
I am 9 days post lap/mirena insertion and the exact same thing happened to me. I also had awful constipation from all the meds and I couldn’t strain because it hurt too much so I didn’t go for a week (!!). When I finally did I basically passed out for two hours. It did sort itself out though with lots of water, mint tea, fruit and veg and some lactulose my gp gave me. Maybe see if you can get your hands on that? It’s getting better day by day still. Sending you lots of get well wishes x
Hope you are a little more comfortable now. I am now 6 post op and when my bowels returned to normal (3days post op) I had this. Terrible contraction type pain before and after using the loo. I wonder if it is just the whole lower abdominal muscles in spasm due to the surgery etc and because they have been 'sleepy' for a few days due to the GA they are working hard to push everything through the colon. I'm not sure though. Hope you are ok today x
I had this too, I think it's just because the muscles down there are a little bit weak and tender. A stool softener and lots of water might be an option to ease the pain a little. Xx
Hello, thank you all for replying! I'd accidentally turned my email notifications off so I've only just seen them now! 🤦♀️
It does make sense what has been said about the bowels waking up and being so sensitive, plus I was also diagnosed with adenomyosis as well as endo and the consultant said my uterus seemed soft, so on top of the treatment for endo and having the mirena put in, it would make perfect sense that it would be irritated by bowel movements wouldn't it!
It's much much better now and yesterday though, it only seems like mild cramping before and after going to the toilet. I have been drinking lots and lots of water and so much peppermint tea that I think I'm going to turn into a peppermint leaf if I carry on! I've been going to the loo like clockwork every morning, and it's actually more towards the opposite of constipation now, but at least I'm not struggling to go. The gas pains have gone down a lot too thankfully.
Thanks again everyone, and hope you are all recovering well from your surgeries too! I wasn't expecting to feel this bad post op.
