Pelvic pain, birth control and laparoscopy

I was started in Lo loestrin (birth control) about three months ago due to intense pelvic pain and the finding of an ovarian cyst (via trans signal ultrasound). When I started taking the pills, everything was fine and I didn’t have any spotting or anything for the first month. I got to my first period and it was like all my other periods, extremely painful and crampy, but survivable. After the four days of period I started the next pack, was fine and no period for one week. I then proceeded to spot/have breakthrough bleeding (whatever you want to call it, blood, sometimes fresh, sometimes brown globby older looking blood) for 4+ weeks (my doc said it was okay to skip the period altogether and just start on a new pack). The spotting has now stopped for the past couple of days. Throughout all of this, the pelvic pain has persisted, sometimes feeling slightly better, sometimes slightly worse, but always there.

I’ve read a lot of posts of people that have had bleeding between periods, but no situations that seemed to last as long as mine. After a follow up ultrasound revealed that the original cyst is gone, but I still have pelvic pain, My doc is recommending exploratory laparoscopy and hysteroscopy to go in and try to figure out what’s going on, using this spotting as one of the reasons. Is this jumping the gun? Should I follow through with surgery or wait it out a bit longer and see if it ends up okay?

Hi there

I experienced the same sort of thing. Painful pelvic area. Had a scan and they found a small (at the time) cyst. I got given norethisterone. I constant bled on and off for 16 days and then after 21 days got another period. After months of back and forth of getting nowhere. They have sent me for hysterocopy i think its a good idea as things can change so easy. The constant pain can only mean to me that something is going on. Good luck.
