What to ask in pre-op?

Hi everyone,

I'm having my pre-op tomorrow for my diagnostic laparoscopy that's on Monday.

What questions are worth asking at the pre-op?

Hey I have my pre op Friday, I’m going to write a proper list tomorrow but I’m going to ask some of these... just a few ideas for you.

How long is the op?

Food & drink prep?

Current medications and taking them in the lead up to the op?

Clothing and after prep what to expect?

Antibiotics after op for infection prevention?

After Care for wounds & stitches?

What type of stitches are being used?

Food & drink after the op, when & what?

Treatment after the op?

Point of contact & accessing info after the op (follow up) transferring records to GP?

What to expect?

I’m going to write them down and take a pen to write the answers so I can refer back to it.

I’ve had the op in two hospitals (one private and one nhs) and I didn’t get much chance to ask questions. They take your bloods, swap you for mrsa, do your height and weight and send you off with a leaflet with all the sort of stuff you’re asking. From my experience they’re not gynae specialists and see patients being admitted for all sorts.
