Am I having a period? Bleeding following excision. May include TMI sorry.

Hi Everyone

I had excision surgery 4 weeks ago for stage 4 endo. Literally had it excised from everywhere. Things have been going well but in the last week I have started to have discharge of old blood, maybe a teaspoon a day. And blood in the stool which I previously had when I was on my period. My period isn't due now as I am on he pill.

Is it normal to bleed old blood after an excision? Especially this long..

Am I just having a period and not realising as I am not in excruciating pain and not soaking pads? I have had an increase in pain the last few days but nothing awful.

I've left a message for my specialist nurse but she's on annual leave and I don't think the GP will know as it's very specific?

Also how much pain should I expect to have going forward after successful excision? I expected not to have endo symptoms but maybe that was naive?

Any thoughts or previous experience welcome. I am a bit anxious especially now I can't talk to my nurse.

Thanks

I am 6/7 weeks post excision, and whilst I’m not bleeding, (mirena coil stopped periods) my usual symptoms which were pretty clockwork are all over the place-I’ve put that down to the lap messing up my cycle which I read can happen. Perhaps it is your period, but I think you’re doing the right thing trying to get in touch with nurse etc-surely someone is covering her leave?! X

Thank you for your reply. I am hoping someone is covering. In all the preparation I don't know why I didn't think to ask about what to expect in terms of symptoms after. My mood and hormones are all over the place so it would explain a lot. Xx

Hi, I bled for around 25 days starting the day after my excision surgery. It is completely normal to get bleeding after surgery. I was put into chemical menopause 2 days after my surgery and that's what stopped the bleeding for me (on day 25). I haven't had an "official" period yet so I'm not sure what to expect either... But I've heard the 1st period after surgery is rough however, the periods following get easier. Hope this was helpful.

Thank you. I did have some bleeding after surgery but then it stopped for 2 weeks and then started again. I think it's the stopping and starting that confused me. Sorry for too much details but was your bleeding very dark? The colour is really concerning! Xx
