Endometriosis caused by surgery?

Hi I’ve just had an MRI that shows a strong likelihood of Endometriosis. I have only had symptoms since suffering a Uterine Rupture during the birth of my second daughter 9 years ago. Has anyone else developed the condition following a complex surgery like this? Thanks.

I empathise xx Major surgery is utterly horrendous to go through. Just my theory but the presence of pregnancy hormones can work to hide the symptoms of endo and suppress it's development as a disease. I can imagine it's not impossible for cells to hypothetically be displaced, perhaps someone else knows more about that, but in healthy people these incorrectly implanted endo cells get destroyed. Major surgery is a huge strain on the body and stressor physically and emotionally. This can depress your immune system. Endo is an immune system mediated disease so a depressed immune state and increased oestrogen after pregnancy is over could then stimulate or accelerate the development of preexisting asymptomatic endometriosis cells to become more symptomatic and grow without being destroyed by the immune system.

I've heard of people developing endometriosis as a consequence of major surgery (even such as a C-section, which can also lead to adenomyosis).

Endometriosis, like any immune-related disease, is caused by something which is either a physical or an emotional trauma.

Lifestyle, infections, major surgery and genetic susceptibility are all proven causes of endo.

Hi I never had any of the signs of endometriosis until i had a c section for my twins. I then went on to have a large ovarian cyst and developed abdominal wall endo after the lap to remove the cyst.

I had zero signs of endometriosis until having my child via c-section. I believe once you open up the female reproductive organs, those tissues/cells “escape” and find homes in the body cavity.
