endometriosis surgery

hi everyone, this my first post, had my laparoscopy done on the 6th and endometriosis and cyst was removed. Lost one tube in the process also. It was an extensive surgery and i had 5 incisions, but i am recovering really well. I am back home and i can move around without stress, just a little pain on the scar area which is healing. I was so scared before the surgery because i thought it was going to take longer for me to get back on my feet but i am happy i am feeling better. Please can anyone advice me on the kind of food to avoid and the kind that will really help recovery because I don’t want this thing to ever come back. Thanks guys

Hi

That’s great recovery is going well 🙂 you had quite a bit of Endo by the sounds of it.

It’s often recommended to avoid gluten and dairy, didn’t work for me. There is a lady who does podcasts on Endo and diet, Jessica Duffin (think that’s her surname) might be worth a look at. She’s interesting to listen to.

hi, there is an amazing book called Heal Endo which is really in depth about diet and lifestyle to support the endo body. She also has a 4 week diet plan book but I haven’t read that one.

Thanks Amber, where do I get it

I got it on Amazon. The main thing I took away from it is that endo causes inflammation in the whole body so we burn through nutrients quicker than other people. So basically get as much veg in to your diet as possible, plus high quality protein (she thinks we need 1.5 - 2x as much protein as other people to aid tissue repair). And reduce inflammatory foods (saturated fats, sugar etc)

Hello Evagrin

I read many research about the subject and found that the best thing that can be done is to eat whole foods plant based diet - in other words minimally processed vegan diet.

I was vegan before my diagnosis, but since then I have also eliminated processed foods, gluten caffeine and alcohol, and it made the biggest difference. Currently I am removing endocrine disruptors from my house, as they are also known to worsen Endo.

The next big thing is yoga - lesions cause scarring inside the abdomen which can later pull during movement. Yoga is both stretching old scares and preventing new ones from forming. My lower back pain is almost gone since I have started doing around 30 minutes a day.

hi Evagrin, I had my lap on 3 December and I’m working with a nutritionist and I’m also a nutrition student.

I’m on a dairy and gluten free diet, I can recommend the heart of nature bread, although it’s not really like bread it high protein with lots of seeds. It’s in the fresh bread section rather than the gluten free section. I’ve switched to Plenish almond milk - which doesn’t have nasty chemicals.

If you eat meat, I think it’s important to eat as high quality as you can afford, try for pasture or grass raised at a minimum if you can and as someone else said, a good amount of protein with every meal is important, at least 25g.

I should say the amount of protein depends on your weight though. I weigh about 66kg and aim for 25kg per meal x
