excision surgery recovery time

hi all, hope you’re well. I know this will be different for everyone, but how long after excision surgery did you take recover? How severe was your endo? And how long off work did you take? Thanks so much xx

Morning,As you mentioned Elsidee11 everyone recovers differently and it certainly isn't a race, listen to your body to what it needs as it generally sets you back if pushed too soon.

I seemed to be fortunate in that I had a pretty straightforward recovery, I was back up and about within 2 weeks and playing sport again within 4... I have stage 4 endo, had 2 endometriomas (6.5cm and one 5.3cm) removed along with extensive adhesiolysis. But don't ever compare yourself to others.

Best wishes... ✨

Thank you ♥️ I thought this would be the case. I’m trying to gather peoples min and max recovery time so that I can give work an idea of how much time I’ll need off 😬🫣 I don’t want to say 2 weeks then need 4 etc xx

IMO I don't think you'd need the full 4 weeks. I'd probably say 2 weeks and if you need more time, just get a doctor's note 🙂👍 but of course only you know your body and your pain threshold xx

Hi Elsidee11, I recovered for 2 weeks after mine, then worked from home for the week after that. I have stage 4 endometriosis, had a large paraovarian 9cm cyst removed, left salpingectomy, right endometrioma drained, superficial endometriosis generally removed. Everyone is different but my recovery was actually much better than I expected, I was up and moving around on the second day after, spent 3 nights in hospital and then recovered at home with just paracetamol for pain relief. Hope your surgery goes smoothly and you have a speedy recovery! x

Hello! I had my lap just under 4 weeks ago and feel totally fine now. Stitches aren't sore anymore. Depends on your type of work, if it's very active you might need 2 weeks off. TBH for me, it wasn't that sore overall. Most pain came from my cat trying to walk across my belly at night to lie down on me lol. I just put a pillow on my tummy, and then when he walked on me, it was fine! I only took general painkillers for the first couple of days. I was diagnosed with stage 4 endo with my ovary fused to my uterus and my uturus fused to my bowel. She unfused the ovary but wasn't able to do the bowel because it was too severe and said she would refer me to a bowel surgeon! So it's quite severe but I really didn't find the lap or the pain/recovery afterwards bad at all. I was back working after 1 week but I work from my home mostly. I took the week off just to rest and chill. If I needed more time, I would have taken it for sure. Best of luck! Xx

Hi, I had surgery 3 weeks ago and for me it's been really tough going. I have stage 4 endo. Lost a fair bit of blood during the op and have been anaemic. Also developed an infection so currently on antibiotics. The pain for the first week was horrific. I still don't understand how i could be given oramorph right up until my hospital discharge then sent home without prescription pain relief. Definitely not managed with ibuprofen and paracetamol, ended up phoning 111 and was prescribed co-codamol and an anti sickness medication for the nausea as that was also very bad which both helped. Pain was then a lot better after a week but recovery for me is slow. Hurt myself a couple of times lifting things too heavy. I was given a 6 week fit note so am grateful to not be worrying about work right now but already anticipating I may need a phased return on top of that. Like others have mentioned we are all different so everyone's experience is different. Hope this helps x

I'm just coming to the end of week 2 of recovery.I feel like I'm still not moving about well and feel like I'm having a very slow recovery. I had excision of endometriosis from left ovary and bladder.

Pain is not too bad, just exhusted. I'm giving myself another week off work. Then work from home.

So three weeks and see how I go.
