Looking for personal stories od the mirina, and also can you use tampons after having it fitted if you bleed? My period is due a few days after it will be fitted. Did you go to work after having it fitted too ?x

Hey! I feel like everyone is different when it comes to hormonal treatments really, as mine was perfect for two months... then the next three were a nightmare with my moods changing all the time and my skin broke out in acne which has only just cleared up after taking 6 months of strong medication. I'm not trying to put you off though as it may be the best thing for you :) I think especially with the mirena you are always going to have mixed reviews, so it's just down to you really! 😘

(Also I had the day off and an afternoon appointment as I was cramping for the rest of the day)

Hi I was on Visanne for 2 years it also helped with the pain but I had concerns about venous thrombosis risk and weight gain. So I wanted to pass to Mirena although I was afraid that it can not be enough because of stage 4 endo. But I am very happy with Mirena. First day during the procedure I had very bad pain (I think because of 2 years visanne and amenorrhea ) but then I am pain-free for 4-5 months now. Also bleeding is very diminished you won't need tampons I believe.

I had mine fitted during a laparoscopy so can’t say about going to work after but it didn’t agree with me from the start. I had it fitted in March and was still bleeding (heavy like a period) and suffered from awful mood swings and nausea so in August i had it removed. It didn’t help with my pain either. I’ve just got what I assume is my first period since having it removed and I can’t leave the house as the bleeding is soo bad! My sister loveable hers and has had it for a few years so it suits everyone differently I guess.

I had the mirena fitted by my gp, I would personally say take the day off as it’s more involved than a smear. I felt very faint & crappy after. I bled as well so you may find your period will be heavier and more painful. I didn’t have any major issues with the coil and after the first period your ok to use tampons. I did have a mood change after and became very emotional. Remember it’s tricking your body into pregnancy so you will get mood changes, possibly boob tenderness etc

Thanks my period is due a few days later, so will have to use tampons for that as I can't stand pads etc.x

I recently had mine fitted. I booked the day off work because I knew you had to rest after it. When it went in it was like a really severe period type pain but as soon as everything was done I was fine no pain for a few hours. Then later that day I was in agony spent the rest of the day in bed drugged up to my eyeballs. Day 2 I was still in severe pain felt like I was having contractions but still weren’t bleeding. Day 3 it got so bad I was crying all day so went back to the clinic and they scanned me and said everything was in the perfect place so I had the choice to either remove it or persist with it. I persisted with it and the pain lasted about a week with it getting easier each day. I carried on taking the pill for the first week and stopped at week 2 so I could get my period. Period was long and heavy but now a month or so later I feel fine.

Everyone’s different my mum has one and didn’t get any pain or any bleeding. Good luck xxx

you can use tampons after the first bleed post fitting, it needs to settle in place first. Usually they advise 6 weeks. you should be fine to go to work after, depending on what you do I guess, you are likely to get some period type pains for a day or two after but that's usually about it. Make sure you take some pain relief before, paracetamol and brufen should do the trick, although not brufen if you have asthma. x
