I am awaiting a hysterically appointment And depending the outcome have been told I will probably need a Miranda fitted but am not convinced it's for me. Can the consultant make me have this done if im not happy about having it done and can anyone tell me about their experience of having one fitted.
Mirena: I am awaiting a hysterically... - Endometriosis UK
Mirena
No body can make you do anything you don't want to. The mirena works for some women, not for others. It's about trial and error for each individual.
It worked for a couple of years for me, but not the full 5 years. I had exhausted all other methods so didn't have much choice but to try it. But I'm glad I did as it gave me 2 yrs of relatively pain free.
Hi, I had one for heavy period. Unfortunately it made me really nauseous and I had it taken out . I'm sensitive to hormones though and my friend thinks gets is brilliant. The fitting was excrutiaying too. Not for me but you might love it. By the way the surgeon any make you do anything. It's completely your choice and you don't have to decide on the day. Good luck!
They will only do what you agree with.
They tried to fot one for me. It was too painful for me so i stopped them and told them i didn't want it.
I had the coil fitted in surgery back in April. It worked fine first couple of months but now it's disappeared. I've been in agony in my back and abdomen. Awaiting an ultrasound to see where it is. it was my last option and although it has controlled bleeding (I no longer bleed at all) I get worse and more frequent pain like shellbell84 said .... Works for some people xx
I had the Minera fitted in April but I had it fitted while I was having a laparoscopy so I don't know what it's like to have it fitted consciously. I feel it has helped me but the pain has this last week started to return I also put a lot of weight on with the Minera as it increased my appetite massively. Personally, I'm thinking of having it removed.
In terms of your consultant, you don't have to have anything done if you're not happy about it. If you don't want the Minera, your consultant needs to find another option that works for you - and there are many!
Hope that helps and best of luck x
I know it's scary to think about having an implant. A year ago I felt the same way as you. But I did it, and I do not regret it. I understand Mirena is not for everyone, but you only know unless you try. Mentally you feel like it's there but honesty you don't feel a thing.
I had my fitted under anaesthetic during surgery to correct my endo.
If you suffer from severe cramps like I did, you will wish you had it sooner. I am so much happier and a lot less tiered. I am so happy it is unbelievable.
I read up on it and there are loads of side effects and I have a friend who had it and it did not agree with her. But try it and see. It has made a huge difference in my life!!
I had one fitted over 5 years ago and it was the best thing I've ever done. My painful (endo) periods were getting worse, and meeting up with a dreadful perimenopause, to cause even more pain and longer periods with shorter gaps between. My endo had only been mild, and was for most of my life controlled by the pill - but then I'm told I have very high pain tolerance. I wasn't diagnosed until my late 30s, and even then the treatment offered was virtually nil. I'd had one laser ablation 18 months before having the mirena, after things had begun to get really bad, post-pill. But things were getting ever worse, and it only kept the pains at bay for less then a year.
I had the mirena fitted in hospital under anaesthetic. This is your right, under the NHS, but no one will tell you, and if you want it you may have to fight for it. I was lucky, as I'd seen a particular gynae, privately, and he said my cervix was too narrow (I've never had kids) so he arranged it all - but it was done by the NHS. They were able to check me thoroughly while I was under, as well as a D&C and fitting the mirena. Turned out the anaesthesia was necessary as my uterus tilts back, and it was an awkward fitting. However, it turned out great, and I've never looked back.
My periods and all pain got gradually easier and shorter, and by 6 months, all pain - including all associated hip and back pains - had gone, as well as my periods. I'm due to have it out, soon, and as I'm nearly 60, and tests say I'm post-menopause, I can't have another, but I am nervous in case the endo pains come back. But the past 5 years have been a dream.
It suits some, but not others, but I would give it a go - especially if you opt for hospital & under anaesthetic.
Take care.
No they can't make you have it without your permission they can only advise you. I have to say I literally decided on the morning of my laparoscopy to have the mirena, it's not a quick fix so if you do have don't expect things to settle straight away, mine took months but it's been great! It doesn't suit everyone though.
I had mine fitted a couple of weeks ago, the pain is bearable and not too bad. I do feel very tired or more tired than I used to but i don't know if I can blame the coil for that.
I've had dvt so this was one of the only options. The way I see it is, if it really doesn't work for me I can have it removed, it's not something you will have to put up with if it really is not good.
good luck x
