Hi is it standard practice to have dvt socks/stockings put on during and after endo lap surgery?

DVT socks/stockings during surgery?
yes, it was for me when I had it 2 years ago. Although I think it's very low risk for this type of surgery, especially if you're of normal weight and generally fairly healthy (other than the endo obviously!)
Also, you keep them on after surgery. once I had recovered on the ward and was getting ready to leave, I removed my socks, I wasn't told otherwise but one of the other patients told me I was supposed to keep them on. I went and asked a nurse and she said 'oh you'll be fine'. I stressed about this for a few days after recovery as I'm a total 'by the book' type of person but was obviously fine.
Ah ok.. thank you so much for your reply. I have bad circulation in my legs so a bit concerned about that plus I am a bit embarrassed of my legs and wanted to be able to cover them up whilst i was waiting for surgery in my gown.
it might help you to know that you're not sitting in a gown for ages waiting (I wasn't anyway). For the majority of my wait, I was fully dressed and it was just as it got closer to my op time, they asked me to put on the gown and stockings and then I could get into the bed where I could be covered. I didn't ever feel exposed.

Thank you xx ahhh my op is weds. Hard not to feel scared
Thank you so much, I am glad it all went fairly smoothly in the end for you x
Hello!
It depends on the hospital. I had a first lap last year and ask the questions about DVT and clots in the lung family history and didn't think I needed them.
I just had another lap, different hospital this time and given my family history they told me it was their policy to give me a blood thinning injection as well as stockings for my surgery. I was told to keep the stockings for a week after my lap (finally took them off yesterday!) Xx
Hey, I had to wear them for surgery but then when I was getting ready to go home, I took them off and was fine xx
I asked about them and the nurse said it's because after surgery you may not be up and about moving as much for the first 24 hours after the op so it helps prevent DVT which can start with the heavy achey leg feeling. It was standard for both my ops and standard practice in the hospital I was at.
To be honest I'd rather they're preventative and over cautious.
I use stockings on all my flights over 6 hours too.
Thank you everyone yes I got to wear some and I am still wearing some more that i bought as I have bad circulation in my legs so a bit concerned about dvt x
