This may well be the vainest thing I've ever asked anyone, but will I have to remove my gels before my surgery? If so, is this both hand and feet, or can I keep them on my feet??
Obviously this isn't the end of the world at all but if I do, I just may not have them done until afterwards, so I don't waste the money.
Thanks

I always attend without anything on my nails as that was always protocol when I was a nurse. But a nail technician I use told me her husbands an anaesthetist and with improved technology there isn't any need. To be fair recently I've never been told to remove nail polish or asked about it when having surgery so if you'd like to keep it on might be worth a call to double check or ask at your pre-op if you haven't had it already.
I have always been told to remove nail varnish etc from hands and feet before surgery xxx
I asked at my pre op and they said i only had to remove one nail so they can check oxygen etc it had to be the opposite arm to the arm you write with as they use that arm to monitor your bloody pressure. I was able to keep all my other gel nails and toes too
I had to remove all polish - gel on hand and regular on feet i asked about just one nail, or just hands, and my hospitals policy was all had to be off as they needed to check capillary refill - i.e. oxygen around the blood - during and after surgery
Frustrating I know, but just make an appointment for after surgery to have them redone and hopefully that will be part of your recovery process.
