Hello! You can take your PJ's with you but you will be in one of their gown's most of the time to be honest, and definitely through the procedure. I took some new PJ's with me but never actually got to wear them while I was in hospital. Good luck with the op. x

The only thing you can wear that's your own is sox. So wear the brightest stripiest or sparkliest socks you can find.

No watch, No Jewellery, No nail varnish (except clear), No make up,

What they give you is Hospital Gown, Paper Knickers, Surgical stockings (at least you don't need to shave the legs the day before as they will be covered up. )

You can take your fave teddy with you as long as it's not too big. Don't for get to put a name tag on him incase he goes wander off for a walk while you are in theatre. You can take him to theatre with you too, but he must wait outside.

The theatre nurses are very good about caring for bears and wearing fun socks tells the staff you are a real person with a sense of humour too - when you are well enough for that!!

Take a Nighty or Night Shirt rather than PJs - just incase you have a catheter fitted when you come round from the op and need that for a day or two.

Catheters and PJs and not compatable.

A warm dressing gown and rubber soled easy slip on slippers are very useful too.

Try and get out of bed and pottering around for short walks as soon as you can even though it hurts. Keeping moving will help get that trapped gas shifted and ease the pains much sooner than lying there doing nothing. Plus it keeps the circulation going and keeps the bowels moving too.

Leave a bag at home with your vauable in it. Either that can be brought in to you after the op or is waiting for you when you get home if you leave the same day.

Cell phones, Ipods , watches and so are are a target for thieves and you will not be alert enough to notice or do anything about it, if something does go for a walk.

Remember on gynae surgical wards staff, patients and visitors are wandering around at all hours.

You wouldn't leave your hand bag in a railway waiting room for several hours and expect it to still be there when you get back - so be sensible and only take what you really do need to have with you.

ALso takes snacks - pringles or a chocky bar and a non-fizzy drink. You are bound to get a bit hungry after the op and if you hve missed the meal rounds then it can get frustrating not having any grub to eat till someone comes to visit you.

Take a small amount of loose change to use in the phone - if you do get released and need to call someon to collect you. Better to risk loosing that than an actual cell phone.

Take something to read or some crafts to do if you have a long wait for the op time.

If you are kept in over night - have someone bring in your treat bag - with watch, toiletries, make up, gadgets and so on.

Wear loosely waisted cothes for going home in. Your tummy could be quite swollen and quite sore too. Also having a cushion to push against your tummy in the car and act as a buffer between you and the seatbelt is a great idea.

If you are kept in over night - limit the visitors to one maybe two on the 1st evening. you will be zonked and unlikely to cope with the world and his wife turning up.

Kid visitors should stay at home on day 1, but can visit in subsequent days if you are kept in longer.

Another reason for not wearing PJs is the op will mean a wound on your belly button and PJs have elasticated waists which pull round where the wound is, which can be uncomfy.

Also take wetwipes in your kit of essentials. After the op your tummy will be covered in disinfectant dye - usually orange in colour, and it is messy and it stains clothes, so having wetwipes to clean that up as you lie in bed is certainly very useful - before you put any of your own clothes on, and for that reason don't take any nice clothes in to wear- use old stuff that you don't mind getting mucked up. There could be bleeding, vomit from anaesthetic and general food spillage as you are a bit unsteady with the meds, so be practical and sensible. This is not a fashion show.

Take a carrier bag to act as a spare bin bag nxt to th bed - very useful for discarded wet wipes and empty food packets and so on. At the end of your stay you can then throw the whole thing in the ward bin as you leave.

You cannot wear metal clips in the hair - so if you have long hair - take a scrunchy to keep your hair off your face during the op and afterwards when you are more prone to chucking up from the anaesthetic.

In both my laps I had two gowns on, one front one back. Makes it awkward wen getting onto the bed but at least I was covered up.

I think that better is to take your PJ's with you because anyway while you are in hospital it is much more pleasant to dress your own soft cloths. Indeed, in a special robe, you will be dressed just several hours after the surgery. I have some cool pajamas from matchinggear.com/pajamas/ for summer and winter. They make such a style of these clothes that you can sleep in it and the same it looks so, that it is not ashamed to appear in it to others. So, I took them with me and that's was the right decision. Frankly, speaking, when I had a cesarean the nurse brought me a robe that has a big back incision in the neck and very funny white mesh briefs. To tell the truth, I do not understand what sense is in this "underpants" but it is really very uncomfortable to wear them. LOL
