Post laparoscopy

Hi ladies,

Now a week and a half post lap, I’ve been to visit the doc. I’m struggling with severe constipation and prescribed stronger laxatives. If I’m not any better I’ll have to go to the hospital tomorrow on the advice of my GP.

My GP has also been able to shed light on the areas that my endo was found but has not stated the severity. The surgeon stated after my surgery that they have left my bowel stuck to my pelvis for reasons I do not know and this info wasn’t even included in the letter they sent to my GP. So, unsure of what to do in connection with this? Maybe she left the adhesions because it’s a bowel issue and not gynae? What if there’s endo hiding under this?

Now they have concluded that they have removed all endo and that they don’t need to see me again, ever. Feeling dismissed and frustrated.

Any help much appreciated!

Hi. I had my lap on 6th August and I'm also struggling with severe constipation. When you say your GP told you to go to hospital tomorrow if it's no better, do you mean A&E, or an appointment at the hospital? Do you know what they will do to help?

I hope you get answers soon x

Hi Hun,

Sorry, they told me to go to GP and they will send me to the hospital. The GP felt my tummy and said that my bowel is extremely full.

So I assume they will make someone aware that I’m on my way up so that they can treat and examine me. They gave me lactolose to start and now I’m having that and cosmocol sachets. Make an appointment with your GP for stronger laxatives, I’m sure they will send you to the hospital if they’re overly concerned.

Good luck Hun.

Ahh I see. Have you experienced any pain from the constipation? I took Senokot last week and ended up in severe pain after a bowel movement. If you don't mind me asking, when did you last have a bowel movement?

I hope you feel better soon x

It’s usually before I have a bowel movement. I start sweating, have severe pain and have to run to the toilet. I think it’s due to having endo on my bowel and pouch of Douglas.

It’s been 10 days for me Hun x

That's the sort of pain I was in! But it came on after a bowel movement, and I kept running to the toilet, but nothing was coming out. Then after 9 hours of that on and off pain I had another bowel movement, which stopped the severe pain. That was day 4 post-op. And yesterday I had a minor bowel movement.

For years now I have had constipation issues, but nothing on this level. I'm hoping it's just because it's not long since I had my surgery, and I'm hoping it will go back to some sort of normality. They found endo at the back of my womb during my lap, which I've been told explains my bowel problems.

I'm sorry you're going through this too x

Often codeine and painkillers can cause very bad constipation, so don’t worry too much Hun. Keep an eye on it and report anything back to your GP. I usually have constipation, it’s often 4 days before I go to the toilet

Hi constipation sufferers.... SUCH a terrible thing to happen after an surgery! Or any time.

Often the inclusion of magnesium (in particular magnesium citrate) will help things along. Morning and night. As well, make sure you're getting plenty of WATER. LOTS, but not WITH meals. Freshly ground flax seed (2tbspn) morning and night will also help. Put it in a smoothie in morning and over coconut yoghurt at night. Remove dairy, gluten and sugar from your world and there's a good chance your bowels will relax. Eat loads of fresh, steamed (but so they're still crunchy) vegies and a little fruit each day. As a fellow sufferer I come from a place of complete understanding. And healing. Doing a daily poo is imperative so if it's not happening, take action. One last thing, peppermint tea and peppermint essential oil rubbed on the tum might bring some relief. Also put a little stool infront of the loo when you feel you need to go - raising your feet so your knees are at right angles straightens your bowels... easier path of excretion! Good luck lovelies. xoxo

SIMONEGILBERT you are fab!!! That is fab advice!!! For water.... I boil the kettle and let it cool. Much better than tap water.

Peppermint tea or drinks are amazing!!!

Also try a hot water bottle for your lower back to ease the discomfort.

Constipation is awful especially after surgery...... take care lovely x x
