Anyone had issues taking contraceptive pills? I’m really sensitive to them; I experience untolerable side effects sometimes after a single dose. I have tried my microgynon, Cerazette and last night Micronor (norethisterone. I really want my heavy periods to stop but the pill makes me sick!!

Sensitive to hormones??
I'm the same! I've always had issues with the pill and I've tried a bunch of them. They usually make me really depressed and then as soon as I stop I'm back to normal. I do have the coil now which seems to be working really well because the hormones aren't everywhere in my body. It's given me much lighter periods but because of the endo it was really painful to get put in and it stayed painful for much longer than normal (which is actually how I ended up getting diagnosed) but other than that it's been really really good! I hope that helps! Xxx
That’s really helpful thanks!
Yes the Drs have suggested the coil but I’ve refused because I’m worried about the pain with insertion. Glad it’s been helpful for you! Take care
The having it in wasn't actually too painful. It wasn't the most comfortable experience of my life but it wasn't painful! I did get bad cramping afterwards which is apparently normal for about 48 hours, and some weird dark bleeding. But none of it was as bad as the cramps I normally get with my periods. The only problem I had was that this then lasted for a few weeks and that's how the doctors realised I had endo xxx
Did you have a lap?
Hi Aaliyah16
I have had major issues taking the pill. I have the mirena coil fitted!best thing I ever did. The hormones from the coil stay local to your cervix and don't circulate in your body, whereas the pill releases the hormone everywhere.
Getting the coil fitted was ok. I didn't enjoy the experience and I had 10 seconds of cramping when the put it in but that's it. If you live with endo and periods cramps then this experience will be nothing for you. It took me around 12 months for periods to settle but instantly they were lighter.
All our procedures are so invasive arent they? I hope you find a solution.
Take care x x
Me too I have tried various pills, implant, depot and it has always made me worse, I defenatley feel I am very sensitive to synthetic hormones so I've decided not to try anymore. I have had the coil and got on fine with it it didn't give me any side effects like the other pills ect. I still got periods and my endometriosis grew but my periods were lighter and less painful. I hope to have it in again in the future when I can tolerate it being put in. Good luck x
They tried me on a number of different pills but I couldn't cope with the side effects. One doctor said that if I was complaining about side effects then my original pain couldn't be that bad! That comment, together with the ineffectiveness of the pill anyway in my case and my growing feeling that I wanted to try to reduce the number of pharmaceutical drugs I had to take, rather switched me off pursuing a solution through the NHS, and I also discovered that one of the pills was putting me at risk of a stroke (opticians found a 'cotton wool spot' in my eye, which couldn't be put down to other factors).
So I did my research and I have since started using Natpro (natural progesterone cream). Before I started on the cream, my periods had got so heavy I could only describe it as haemorrhaging. Now, my periods are very light indeed, though they tend to be more irregular (which could however be perimenopause). I have changed a lot of other things in my life (diet, etc) at the same time, so it's hard to say exactly what effect each component has, but I think it's certainly worth tying the cream particularly if you don't want to go down the synthetic route any more. It's not cheap but for me it was doable and worth it.
Hello, I’m really sensitive to contraceptive pills and I didn’t get on with the contraceptive injection either so was really reluctant to have the Mirena coil but I have got one and was surprised getting it fitted wasn’t half as bad as I’d expected, it definitely helped with my mood/emotional symptoms after a few months (I was getting severe pms and depression 2 weeks every month) and now I don’t really have periods at all.
I have not been diagnosed with endometriosis yet, still in the process, waiting for MRI results before lap date is booked.
I’ve had the coil for two years, I think it’s been a positive thing. I have been struggling with a lot of pain again in the last 4-5 months, but have a lump in my pelvis I can feel (drs think endo attached to c-section scar). I honestly think I’d be struggling a lot more at the moment without the coil.
Maybe the coil isnt for everyone but don’t be too scared to try something that could potentially relieve some horrible symptoms for you.
Take care of yourself whatever you choose. All the best
