Has anyone been told to try the coil and the patch. I’m really struggling with endo pains three years after excision surgery and have a mirena coil fitted but have been told to try the patch as well to shut my cycle down.
I really had having all these hormones put in my body and worried about the side effects

I firstly got told to try the copper coil and I could shoot them for giving me that as it gave me a heavy period and agony for over 3 months. I'll never forget it. I then got the mirena and had it for two years as it had a positive impact however I felt something weren't right with it and felt it kept moving I work in a very physical job and didn't like the feeling of this fitted inside me I often got it checked. After this you know when something isn't right I got an implant it does affect my mood but generally for me the best contraceptive however it's not enough to keep my endo under wraps. 6 months ago my gyne at a specialist endo centre prescribed me dienogest which has pretty much completely stopped my periods and my life is so much better just to have the bleeding under control. It did take 4 months for me to see the benefits but it's a long term condition and it needs a proper bit of time to see how it affects your body. Everyone is different. To sum up I have an implant and dienogest. Dienogest suppresses estrogen to stop endo progressing and I do find it's nice just to get the bleeding under control. Keep a healthy lifestyle too eat balanced diet exercise no drinking and smoking really does help. I wish you the best and hope that helps.
Thank you so much for messaging. I’m glad you’ve found something that works for you. I will read up on dienogest, sounds really good. Yeh I was being super healthy for a while and it helped and I’ve slumped a bit recently so will get back on it again. Thanks for helping 😄
Hi, I use the implant and the birth control pills. It is weird to be putting all this hormones in your system but, I haven't really noticed any side effects and my endo is so bad that the implant alone wouldn't help so I use both. It may sound weird to have two different types of contraceptives but they do prescribe it sometimes... If you don't like it you can always ask them for something else and take off the patch.. Maybe give it a try and see how feel 💛
Yeh it is weird isn’t it. That’s why I was quite reticent to take them both but you’re right, I should give it a go and see how I feel. I’m quite worried about my mental health with a combined pill but I will track and it stop if it’s affecting me too much. I’m glad you’ve found something that is helping you and thanks for giving me the nudge to give it a go 😄
Hiya, I hope you don’t mind me jumping on here but I wondered if you ended up taking the patch? If so, how are you finding it? I’ve been recommended it for the same reason as you, and also have the mirena. Any experiences/recommendations welcome; I usually don’t react too well to hormones!
