Was my consultant supposed yo come and see me after surgery?

I've just got out of my lap 3 hours ago and they are keeping me in because I was a bit sick.

I haven't seen my consultant and by the looks of it won't be either. That's not normal right? I was the last surgery of the day so I think she's buggered off home.

I'm now feeling very pained and confused.

Sorry to hear this. Not easy having an op, to find out consultant not coming too visit post op. Was it an exploratory lap? You should ask the nurse to see him / her on his/ her rounds in the morning. You should not be discharged without feedback from the op/ follow up appointment/ post op medical info following laparoscopy.

I’ve had a couple of laparoscopies . The second one was exploratory/ ovary removal. I was v sick afterwards and like you, stayed in an extra night. The consultant came round the next day.

Yeah it was exploratory, I also had a hysteroscopy.

Just had to ask the nurse if I was going to see her and she went "oh did she not come round after theatre?"

I just wanted to know what they found etc and now I'm even more confused and upset than before.

You should explain how you feel to one of the nurses. It may help to make sure the consultant sees you ASAP. The not knowing is very stressful. It’s always a waiting game inhospitals it seems.

Good luck

Well I asked and the nurse said she will only see me in outpatients now in 2 to 6 weeks.

The girl in the room next to me didn't see her either and was just sent home.

So now I'm left waiting to find out what she found because I know she didn't do anything due to only having the one cut in my belly button.

I did here someone say they had 3 pages of photos from my surgery so I wonder if because I was last on the list she hasn't had time to look at things fully.

She also said before I went into theatre that she would not treat anything today just diagnose even though initially I was supposed to receive treatment for minimal to mild endo if found.

Thank you for your response lovely. Hope you are doing ok x x x

Here is my experience: I had a laparoscopy and excision of endo that turned into a laparotomy six weeks ago. I was kept in for two nights. My consultant briefly come straight out of theatre, when I was still in recovery, to tell hubs what had happened and why it took over three hours (poor hubs was thinking the worst when waiting). The assisting surgeon tried talking to me in recovery and all I remembered of that was they had to open me up and she helped stop the bleeding. My Consultant then came round the next morning, and relayed everything that he had done. The only way I really remembered much of what he said was that I wrote it all down in a text to my mum straight away so I didn’t forget anything. The drugs and zero sleep through the night from iv antibiotics and bp measurements, had me pretty dopey. In my actual follow up appointment 4 weeks later he had images of the procedure (weird seeing inside yourself) and relayed everything again in great detail. I hope that helps? I’m sure you’ll be updated in due course. Sending healing hugs. x

Thank you sweetheart! I guess my consultant doesn't come round, weird private hospital. But you have eased my mind that maybe she's just wanting to go through everything at once because I had a hysterocopy as well. X x x

I had the same, they sent me their assistant. I was so out of it and groggy it didn’t sink in- they told me as I woke up and my husband was elsewhere in the ward waiting for me. I complained and they sent me a letter with the details. Xx

It's not a nice feeling is it! Being discharged and not knowing what happened to you or what they found if anything. I haven't heard a single thing apart from the nurse who discharged me saying I would get a follow up and not to use tampons when I bleed.

Omg that’s awful, I know how vulnerable u feel after a lap as well so that’s not good aftercare. Ring the consultants PA on Monday and ask - if they have one, or go back to your GP xx
