Lap and Hysteroscopy

Hi guys, I have my first lap and Hysteroscopy on Wednesday! I think I’m fairly mentally prepared for the the lap, thanks to you lovely ladies, but I don’t really know what to expect for the Hysteroscopy - will they do that under anaesthetic too? Will I go into surgery naked? Will I be able to get dressed again afterwards?! Will I bleed lots?!

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks

They did my hysteroscopy at the same time as my lap on both occasions so I was asleep :) the first one I had I was taken to theatre and as I was about to get up onto the table a female nurse help me take my pants off. The second time I was at a different hospital and had to wear these ridiculous paper knickers 😂 so they could remove them to do the hysteroscopy. You nor.ally get given a gown to wear and then sometimes the let you wear a dressing gown to feel a little more covered as you go do to theatre. But yes you need to only be the gown by the time they're ready. But don't worry about this on both occasions everyone has been super understanding and respectful and I was that focused on the surgery element I didn't really think about that too much.

On recovery they may have placed a pad or something similar between your legs in case of bleeding. Once a wake enough you will have the opportunity to go to the loo and things so if you wanted to pop your pants and a sanitary towel on you could do.

The first time around I bled a little for a day or two. The second time I also had a coil fitted so I bled a little bit more. This should only be like period bleeding though. You may also have some cramping.

It all depends on if they are doing a hysteroscopy to remove anything or just to check etc.

Best of luck you'll be fine big hugs and I hope you have a quick recovery x

Hi hun I have been booked in for the same surgery as you are. I’m having mine in March.. I have also had a laparoscopy last year and a hysteroscopy 3 years ago.

As you are having a lap as well as hysteroscopy you will be under general anaesthetic.

You will be in a hospital gown but I would bring your own dressing gown to go over yhe hospital gown - they are not the best and you will not be allowed to wear knickers for this surgery. At least when you walk to theatre you’ll have some dignity 😊 obviously you’ll take your own dressing gown off and just wear hospital gown.

I’d get some easy meals in or make some meals and feeeze them- I wasn’t up to cook after my laparoscopy. ( I had endo removed)

Pack an overnight bag in case. Bring tablet books etc as you might not be first for theatre and it can be boring waiting! It is a good idea to wear baggy trousers and bring a jumper - you might feel cold when coming around- I do anyway!!! Also bring some pads in case you bleed- tampons aren’t allowed as they can cause infection.

I spotted after my hysteroscopy but they took a biopsy. You may bleed.

Keep an eye on the incisions from the laparoscopy. If they get red, weepy see a nurse ASAP.

You need a least a week off - maybe 2 if you have treatment.

Good luck I hope it goes well xoxo
