Surgery update from yesterday

Good morning girls. Surgery went fine and I have been diagnosed with mild endometriosis. They also said I had a layer of substance around my ovaries, so they’ve taken biopsies of that and of inside womb too. So I guess I’ll hear back if it is anything bad.

Also had mirena coil fitted.

The gas pain was excruciating. A pain that I’ve never felt before, on par with my labour contractions. No joke.

I went to hospital at 7.45am and left at 10pm... with a catheter. I couldn’t manage to wee enough and my bladder was just filling up. That wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Has anyone else gone home with one?

I’m back in at 9am to get it removed and they then want me to do two wees more than 200ml each. If I’m still struggling I’ll need the catheter for a week... great!!

I am struggling with breathing today, if I walk a short distance I’m out of breath but guessing I still have some gas left inside me maybe pressing against lungs??

Incision sites are sore today. I had lots is pain relief at hospital and I have tramadol now at home.

All in all went well.... I feel almost relieved even though endometriosis isn’t a positive thing, I now know why I have been in pain.

Thank you for you ladies who messaged me about surgery too I really appreciate it. The GA was wonderful haha xxx

Hey

I'm glad your OK. I have my lap tomorrow. When i have had surgery before I can never wee after and have to have catheter and stay in. I have never been home with one. I have read a few people on here have been home with them in. Don't ask me why but when they have taken mine out and I try for my first wee I find singing helps get it out.... nuts I know but hey if it works for me maybe it will for you. Good luck and I hope you can wee xxxx

Thank you. I’m just back on a ward but sat in a day room, I’m so sore I just want to lay down and sleep :(

Catheter is out now.

I’m allowed one cup of water an hour and I have to pass 200’ml at one time to go home otherwise it’ll be a catheter for a week :( xx

I had a similar problem but the Nurses where great...lots of caffeinated tea (i know it may not help with the pain) and iced water did the trick for me :)

Well done. I only had my catheter overnight, but it sounds like you are coping well.

I hope you hear from the biopsy soon.

Go gently, laps really do wipe you out.

Xx

Catheter is hurting again this evening :( it’s not where it’s been inserted. It’s deeper so I’m guessing it’s the bladder? Unsure but it’s just so uncomfortable. I really am dreading having this in until Monday, feel so frustrated and low xx

So sorry your stuck with it over the weekend :(

Mine didn't hurt but I was drugged up to the nines on pca in hospital and was generally in a pickle so grateful to have it.

It's totally natural and normal to feel very low and weepy after surgery, its all part of all the anaesthetic drugs starting to wash out of our system I think and your body reacting to what's happened to it.

Big big hugs, xxx

Feel very fed up today. I thought I felt better so got up and had a shower only to come back to bed feeling sick and tired out.

My catheter is really causing me so much stress, it’s frustrating me so much!!

I have lower abdomen pain and lower back pain and unsure if this is due from surgery or an infection.

I have thrush which I’ve taken a tablet for but it’s driving me mad.

I tried the laxido sachets with orange juice and I couldn’t stomach it, so I’m hoping my Bowels just start naturally soon!!

Just want this all to be over with :( xx

When I had my lap, they asked if I had wee'd and I said yes (it was a minuscule amount) and they just sent me home. As soon as the car set off for the hour drive home I was literally screaming in pain because my bladder hurt so much, felt like I was gonna wee myself but nothing came out. That first night home was horrific because I honestly felt like my bladder was going to burst and everyone kept telling me it was just bruising but honestly I think I needed a catheter! It might not be very nice (sounds horrible) but the alternative is an experience I would honestly never wish on anyone, and as much as it physically doesn't stop the pain, you know it's in there for a good reason! And you've just had surgery, don't be too hard on yourself being in pain, it won't last for much longer, keep going! x

Bless you xx it was days before I showered. Get someone to take a chair in as you get dizzy from standing up.

No one here can offer medical advice, so if you are concerned you need to call your hospital, GP or 111. I definitely had lower abdomen pain but I'm not sure about back pain, i can't remember but probably as i had bowel surgery i did. Keep a close eye out for deterioration or other infection signs like a bad small, wound pus or discharge excessive coughing.

This is a good guide to what its like for your body to recover from a lap which helped me understand what pain was normal and what to look out for.

My other excision surgery recovery survival guide was by a lady physio and a nurse from guys who both experienced surgery themselves. Despite its title the advice is good for pretty much all lap gynae surgery my physio said. I didn't have a hysterectomy or stress incontinence. 3or 4quid on amazon.

I didn't find lactulose syrup too bad but didn't do sachets. Alternatively natural laxative aids include drinking lots of water to keep fluids up, put a jug near where you are resting and set a phone reminder (vital) licorice /licorice tea ( unless you've blood pressure issues) , prunes (taste better than they sound and look), lots of green leafy and unpeeled veg. Minimising your opioid drugs will help too if you can as they bung you up.

Mine didn't move for a week and it did get scary. But I had had major bowel surgery. I had to have two enemas in the end.

Go gently it will get better but your body needs time xxxx
