Bleeding after sex

Hi everyone,

Sex has been extremely painful for me for years, as a result of my endo. Today, my partner and I attempted penetrative sex. It was painful, but I managed for a bit before we stopped. That was several hours ago, and I've just gone to the loo and found a fair amount of blood in my knickers. I'm not on my period, and I've never had this before.

Does anyone else have experience of this? Should I be worried?

Sarah

It’s probably a result of endometriosis, have you been referred to a gynaecologist etc?

Not yet - I had my lap in November, so this is all new. My follow up from the lap is in Feb, and I'm seeing a consultant then so I've been saving up all of my questions for them!

Good, at least it’s not too long to go! Good luck x

Hi,

I used to bleed after sex, it’s always something you should get checked out by a gp. It can be something harmless (I got told I had a cervical ectropion which is nothing to worry about but does cause bleeding), or could be something else. I would go and get it checked. I have just been told since my lap a few days ago that my endo has infiltrated through my vaginal wall so they removed part of it (but also said that is fine and won’t affect anything as this tissue heals very well) so it could have been this all along I don’t know! But best to get it checked. Hope it goes well x

Thank you, I'll get it checked! Could always be nothing, but better to be on the safe side :) x

Hi Sarah. I had this, came from a polyp on my cervix. I would go to your gp and ask them to refer you to get it checked. Hope all goes okay.

Hiya - I went to my GP, who basically dismissed me and said that it was just cause of my endo. She was awful! I'm going to a GUM clinic next week to get them to have a look, and I'm going to arrange to see a different GP when I can!

I always think a woman gp would be more understanding but often they aren’t. Hope you had more luck at the clinic. You shouldn’t have to live with these symptoms so fingers crossed someone listens!

Funny that, isn't it - but the male GP I saw was much more understanding. It's not happened since, and he examined me and said I looked healthy, but that if it happens again to go back and he'll run some more tests. So I'm feeling much more reassured :)

That’s good, at least he took you seriously. Hopefully that’s the end of it now 👍

Hi Sarah, I have stage 4 endo and heavy bleeding after sex is a common occurence for me. I also suffer from terrible pain during and after sex which is just soul destroying.

You should always get any new symptoms checked out and not just attribute it to your endo.

Definitely worth a chat with your gp or gynaecologist.

Hope this helps. Take care x

It's awful isn't it? I find the pain during sex the worst part of my endo to cope with emotionally You're right, I'll go and see my GP or gynae - I think it's a really easy trap to fall into, just blaming it all on the endo!

in reply toSarahMia227

I agree, it's very difficult to cope with as it has such an impact on the relationship with our partners. My husband is very understanding but there is a limit to his patience!!

Hope you get on okay getting checked out x
