Bleeding every 10 days on cerelle

Hi

I had my 2nd lap 18 months ago, to remove adhesions. The consultant wanted me to then have the mirena coil fitted, but I was not keen, so instead she said I should take a deoestrogel (sp?) Mini pill. Again I was reluctant but my gp suggested I try it and see how I felt. To cut a long story short, for the past 6 months (and for a while earlier in the year too) I have been bleeding every 9 days or so. I bleed for 3-5 days (often brown blood), have 6-8 days off, then start again. It's not the bleeding that bothers me as such, but the pain, chronic debilitating fatigue, mood swings, depression and weight gain that goes with it.

I have an appt with the consultant in 3 weeks, but her recent letter to my gp (which took 3 months from my gp writing) said I should either continue with the pill or get a coil. No consideration that there could be anything more sinister going on eg cysts, fibroids, more adhesions, etc. or even something unrelated like my thyroid.

I was wondering if anyone has just stopped taking the mini pill (That's 17 months I've been on it) and taken their chances? I wonder if the endo will really get worse? Would it be any worse than my current state?!

I had such pain the other week that I booked to see a consultant privately. He was great and said an option would be to have gnrh (to induce menopause) plus add back hormones (to counter the menopause) and that would likely stop the bleeding. Has anyone done this? I'm a bit apprehensive.

Any thoughts would be much appreciatex. I have no faith that the visit to the nhs consultant in 3 weeks will be any use at all :-(

Thanks!

I took the cerelle pill for 3 years and it made me bleed like that, I’m now on the implant and I’m bleeding everyday but it’s light bleeding 8/10 and I haven’t flooded flooded since going on it, which as much as I hate it is heaven compared to what cerelle did to me.

it might be worth taking a break off the pill perhaps, I used to take breaks just to balance it out but had to go back on it x

Thank you :-)

At least I know it's not my imagination that it's the pills!

Sorry you had such a hard time with it. Glad things are kind of better now :-)

I think a break is a good idea. At least then I can compare how I am on and off it.

Cheers :-)

Hello, I’m in a similar predicament as you, although my bleeding has stopped.. I can relate to the fatigue and the low moods and weight gain though. I’ve been on cerelle for 11 months this month, and although I’m not a fan of being on synthetic hormones, the pill has kept my pain at bay and me out of hospital ! I have recently been wondering whether to risk coming off cerelle due to the side effects though.. it’s a risk isn’t it? I don’t want to be in severe pain and end up in the back of an ambulance. I don’t have a diagnosis yet either which is very frustrating but I’ve asked my gp for a referral back to my consultant to discuss further. The pill has a LOT to answer for! I hope you feel better soon. Xx

I'm really sorry you're feeling the same as me! :-( As you say though, at least it does reduce the pain.

I hope you get a diagnosis soon and then a treatment plan.

Good luck!
